(Raw)
Clarence turned to see Josh holding Melody by the waist as he guided her to lower her hips. This threw the last of his resolve, with his blood beginning to boil he cussed,
"Son of a-" He stopped his tongue almost too late. And before he knew it he was already standing ready to punch the gym instructor.
Time froze for a second as he felt the boiling of his blood slowly subsiding and rationality kicking in. Is he about to punch the gym instructor? Is that the right thing to do? The answer was so obvious.
He knew that Josh was simply doing his job with no malicious intent, so why did he stood up almost launching at him, more than ready for a punch!? To think he was merely seconds away from punching a decent man!? Is this how he's gonna ruin and stain his supposed composed and collected demeanor? It was obvious to him that it's not good to let emotions take over your actions. No arguments needed. And heck, he's never the impulsive type! Well, at least not until he admitted he had feelings for Melody.
His eyes made a quick turn towards Melody, her expression a mixture of uncertainty and panic. It made him realize that he was just standing there after hastily getting up and imposing an almost menacing pose.
Great. Just great.
What will he do now?
For the lack of answer himself, he instead quickly dove into a coughing fit. Praying with all his might that he successfully staged a chronic cough.
The hand that's already balled into a fist just moments ago, now placed now over his mouth as he continued fake-coughing his way to masking the tension from seconds ago.
As if it doesn't look stupid enough he coughed two more times, ignoring the bewildered face of both Josh and Melody.
"Ugh, excuse me. I think I'm going to catch a cold." He said continuing his charade. All the while cringing at himself deep inside. Out was the rage from moments ago and in was embarrassment eating him whole like quicksand slowly sinking him in.
"That's bad cough you got there, man. Please feel free to get some water in the pantry right across this room. Let's first take a break." Josh sounded really concerned despite the confused look in his face. It made Clarence relieved that he didn't punch the nice decent guy and another inch bit more embarrassed.
"Thanks man, I'll be right back." He cleared his throat and swiftly turned, walking away as if nothing happened, slowly and calmly escaping shame. Almost regaining composure.
On his way, he heard Josh asking Melody, "Does he always cuss when he's not feeling well?" In a voice he must have thought Clarence wouldn't hear. He pushed the glass door open, pretending not to hear, yet the confused 'yes' from Melody's response made him inevitably wince.
All the while muttering to himself 'Great, Clarence. Just great' as he made his way out and into the pantry.
Clarence chugged a whole glass of water in one go. Not because of cough but rather to drown the embarrassment away. If that was even possible.
He pondered one more time why he time and time again turn uncontrollably out of character when it comes to Melody.
He was close to punching a decent man just mere minutes ago. For what? For assisting Melody and doing his job?
Somehow it felt the same way when he wanted to punch Melody's ex way back.
But he knew himself that that was an entirely different story. The scumbag made his sweet Melody cry. That Xander guy deserves a punch or more. Heck he'd be more than willing to punch the guy into a bloody pulp any time and not be embarrassed about it.
