“Any time now… “

Melody mumbled silently, palpable expectation crawling through her skin like the tiny bits of sweat that came out her pores. She haven’t even started on any workout routine yet! And to add up, the gym was fairly air-conditioned! But behold there she was, struggling with all her might just to stand up in place with her wobbly feet. Looking at this oh so familiar guy as he went off the treadmill and walk towards her.

“Clarence!” She heard Josh hail for him to come closer to them. She didn’t know if she’d feel relieved, since for a second she thought she already gone deaf because of the loud drumming beats of her heart. Almost relieved. Just almost. If not for the fact that she’s now eye to eye with the last person she wanted to see.

“This is Melody, she’ll be your workout partner for today. And Melody, this is Clarence the new client I told you about.”

‘Any time now…’ The thought ringed in her head, albeit just an ounce less expectant than before, as she waited for the bitter sweet saving grace of her phone alarm, bracing her hands, ready to reach through her bedside table to hit stop on the alarm and wake up.

This has to be another dream. She gulped. She has to wake up now.
‘Any time now.’ Maybe she should make a little skin contact with him, maybe a handshake and then surely she’d wake up before their hands intertwine. She blankly reached for a handshake, distracted by the feel of a droplet of sweat making its small journey, sliding down her fore head.

‘Any time now…’ She said internally as she waited for the hand shake, her hands growing cold. She saw Clarence blinked, utterly confused, his brows hitched up and almost furrowed down obviously torn, yet reached her hand none the less. Melody almost shivered, the hand shake felt so real! His big hands engulfed the size of her, his velvety smooth flesh almost surrounding hers. The feel of their mere skin touching burned her, it scorched her enough that she hastily pulled her hand away before being completely submerged by the feel of him.

‘Any time now…’ Almost losing all hope she plead one last time.
‘Any time now… Wake up!’ It took her a few more blurry seconds before realizing she won’t wake up.
Heck! Why would she wake up when she’s in fact wide awake!? What futile wistful thinking. The ground should split anytime now and better devour her whole.

She jerked when she heard Clarence cleared his throat, shortly removing his eyes from her. She noticed he moved his hand down just now. Apparently it was awkwardly suspended in air right after she abruptly pulled away from the handshake. Not that she’d notice that a minute ago since she herself was busy having an internal panic attack.
‘How is this not a dream!?’ Last time she dreamed of him it felt just as real. Except, today it’s in fact real. She was distracted when she heard Clarence started to speak, aiming at clearing things out to Josh.

“We… actually know each other, she’s my –“

“We’re childhood friends! Yes. That’s right. W-we’re childhood friends!”

She sounded as if she was convincing herself rather than Josh. She even absent-mindedly clapped her hands somewhat disburdened at the last minute excuse that automatically slipped out her mouth. No matter what poor excuse it may be she just wanted to cut Clarence off, before he finish telling some unnecessary information. With all this commotion, there’s only one thing she’s 100% sure of.

It is that the gym doesn’t need to know that they we’re previously married! This place had been her oasis during the drought of emotions she’d felt after the contract. It aided her to focus on self love, gain back her confidence, made her stood back up after the greatest heartbreak.
