"Oh, such beautiful bracelet my dear!"
Gertrude said with much cheerfulness, proud with her son's taste the moment Melody showed her Clarence's gift for their honeymoon. It was a silver chain formed with small infinity signs interconnected and has small diamond and sapphire stones randomly tracing its inner outline.
Melody just smiled as they sat at the dinning table with Clarence's arm being awkwardly placed over her shoulder every then and now. As both of them expected, Gertrude went on almost an hour questioning this and that about their 'Japan Frolic escapade' as what she calls it.
The two answered and made the little story-telling almost naturally. Their prowess with their pretension had improved. Not that they've been telling lies, they told Gertrude almost exactly what went on. Well, of course adding a bit icing on top. Soon the dinning area was filled with laughter. The mood was light, accompanying the brightness of the afternoon sun. Gertrude just went on the whole lunch time questioning the two of them about the places they've been to and what went on. She occasionally threw funny questions that made her husband laugh and snort as he silently listen to his son and daughter-in-law.
"She's been a bit whinny again, but of course she wasn't able to resist my charm!"
Clarence said between munching a spoonful of his favorite pasta dish, carbonara. And made eye contact with Melody before facing his mother and continued.
"All I had to do was to remove the towel around my waist and ha! she went silent." He said in an overly proud tone. He had gone past that awkward situation and even found the hilarity out of it. Not to mention he was also confident enough about every thing that Melody took sight of. He then eyes Melody and wink. She was frowning right then and there but was blushing as well.
"Didn't I ask you not to remind me of that!" She said pinching hard on Clarence's arm.
"Oh common Melody you were so cute that time. You were rough after that though!" He mocked. Melody blushed at the double meaning Clarence was aiming for. But she's more consumed by being pissed. She had really asked him never to bring that scene back. It made her quench her hand remembering the punch. Actually, at the moment she wouldn't mind doing a repeat performance. But of course she tried her best not to. At least not in front of Clarence's parents. She took deep breaths, her face and ears painted in red as her blood continue gushing from both anger and embarrassment. She was trying to hold back. Seeing her like that only made Clarence laugh.
"Clarence!" She almost grumbled.
"What!?" He asked, acting innocently which only made Melody's temper high. She then thought of something to get even with him.
"Well, someone came talking to me that time. Let me recall... Oh right! A little birdie!" She mocked in return. Giving emphasis to the word 'little'. Clarence gasped having his ego hurt a bit.
"A little birdie!?" He asked making his offended expression exaggerated with his brows raised up even though he didn't believe her.
Gertrude laughed, "That's weird. He didn't got the marvelous enormous genes of his father then?"
Gertrude blurted which made Carl snort at the comical bluntness of his wife. On the other side of the table, Melody looked down, cheeks with a deep blush of pink while Clarence face-palmed, embarrassed, while muttering,
"Uhg. Really, Mom!?"
Later that afternoon Clarence's parents are at the spacious veranda biding them goodbye after helping them unpack and organize the groceries they bought for them on the way. Melody and Clarence had gave them the gift they bought from Japan. A wristwatch for Carl and a pair of earrings for Gertrude.
