Perfect timing.
The irony has been mocking Clarence's head since the last minute meeting was announced.
He sat at the closest chair to the projector screen inside their company board room keeping his cool.
In front of the long conference table was his father, who was almost snarling as he go over one of their big projects.
There was an inaccurate swap of materials used on the construction of a multi-billion dollar building they were handling. The mistake had construed to a mismatch on the costing agreed upon with the client.
Clarence made a rundown look at the tensed faces of the engineers, contractors, and accountants assigned for the project, wondering how they've manage to make such small shameful mistake, mind you, to their biggest client nonetheless.
He took a zip of the black coffee that his dad's secretary served during the start of the meeting.
It's a good thing that Darren coincidentally called him earlier asking what he'd want for dinner, with that he was able to notify he'd be home late and just go on with dinner without him.
His best guess is that it'd probably take a couple of hours to wrap the meeting up.
This scenario is nothing new to him. After all, he'd been assisting his father for years now with the CEO task. Demanding him to be always hands on, down to the smallest affairs as preparation for the CEO turn over.
Clarence arrived home at almost eleven o'clock. The traffic jam of Friday's bar hopping night caused him even more delay.
He stride to the living room right after he removed his shoes and in time saw Melody and Darren on their way upstairs.
He even overheard them talking about sea diving and snorkeling when he reached the middle of the living room as he go after them.
"Melody." He called when he reached the foot of the stairs. The two looked back at him in unison.
And before she can even respond, there he was, grabbing her by the wrist guiding her down the stairs, which earned him a small shocked "Eep!" from her.
He figured he'd have to act quick before she flee away the moment he approached her.
He aimed for the front door to go outside without any particular place in mind. He'd just have to apologize and talk things through, make sure that things between them are settled before this day ends.
"Where are you two going?" Darren asked when they were about to exit the front door.
Clarence just turned his head not stopping from his steps, and replied nonchalantly;
"A date."
"At this hour!?" He closed the door behind him and Melody, ignoring the flustered look on his brother's face.
"L-let's head back inside. It's quite late to go anywhere at this hour." They've already reached his Cadillac by the time Melody finally talked.
"No. You're not running away from me this time, Missy." Clarence was certain he just saw Melody twitched.
Why is she so embarrassed?
Shouldn't he be the one to feel such?
"Let's just talk. Hop in." He said as he opened the car door for her.
On the contrary, half an hour of their late night drive, still neither of them uttered a word.
Clarence quickly glanced at Melody before turning his attention back at the road. At least she doesn't look tensed now, compared earlier.
