I was asleep somewhere I didn't really want to be. Me, my kids, Jonnie, Nasir, Jamere, my parents and little sister decided to be the ones to come to Chicago while the others went to Baton Rouge. My family was in our old house, although we were all close and tight now I couldn't help but to think of the past. A lot went down in this house, especially in the bed I'm sleeping in.
I woke up feeling rough movement and whimpers beside me. I looked to see it was Ja'Khari, tossing and turning, breathing heavily and sweating.
"Ja'Khari," I quickly picked him up and his eyes shot open.
"Hey it's mama." He looked at me before resting his head on my chest.
"You ok?"
"I want daddy." I closed my eyes before placing a kiss on top of his head. I didn't say anything I just held him as I listened to him start to cry.
"Please don't cry Khari. Please." My phone started ringing and I seen it was Kentrell's number. I quickly answered it making sure to put it on speaker.
"Hello?"
"Hey mamas, y'all good?"
"No Kentrell. We're not ok. I got a child crying because he misses his daddy, another one won't eat, then I got two who won't talk. My kids are smart, they know they're not at home, they know somethings going on Kentrell."
I heard him sigh.
"Well baby what can I do? I'm in jail." A tear rolled down my face.
"Daddy."
"Hey Ja'Khari." I handed the phone to him allowing him to talk. I was so confused on how the fuck he can just get accused of something without valid evidence that could stand by to say he might have done it.
"You ok?" Ja'Khari asked.
"Um..... I will be as soon as I get the hell out of here."
"You say a bad word." Kentrell laughed.
"I'm sorry- oh shit."
"What? What's wrong bab-"
"Jay I gotta go ok, I love you so m-"
"Kentrell please don't, please-"
"I'm sorry mama, I gotta go. I'll call tomorrow, I love y'all." With that he hung up. I sighed heavily and Ja'Khari looked at me.
He poked his bottom lip out and I kissed his cheek.
"It's gonna be ok, I promise. He's gonna come back." I handed him my phone so he could watch cartoons.
All the sudden I heard a loud thud, these walls were thin so you could hear everything.
"Nasir please just calm down ok, did you take your medicine?" I made a face before putting my ear against the wall so I could hear.
