Chapter 2. Excuses and Jealousy

My phone had been ringing all morning, I already knew who it was. I had been dealing with this jealousy for almost 4 months now, but, like always instead, of dealing with this like an adult, I ignored him ( He was used to it by now ). I was laying in bed with Bernie and a book, normal things I do on my day off. After my phone rang for the 10th time, I decided just to answer it and make up an excuse. ” Hello? ” I whispered, ” Ellie, What’s wrong? ” Dan questioned. I sighed, ” I’ve got a major headache and I was up most of the night with it ” ( That’s a new one ) I stated. He didn’t say anything at first, but then he sighed. ” I’m sorry, I hope it goes away. I’ll let Beth know you won’t be making it today ” he sighed, I hated lying to him, but I just don’t want to be around the happy couple right now. ” Okay ” I sighed, ” I’ll talk to you later ” he stated. ” Alright ” I sighed before we both hung up, ” Ugh! ” I exclaimed as I got up out of bed. Why was I such a wimp? Why was I still acting like this? I was supposed to be happy for him!

[ Over at Dan & Phil’s Place ] 

After hanging up the phone, Dan walked into the lounge where Phil and Pj were. He sat on the sofa, next to Pj. ” I thought you were hanging out with Elle today? ” Pj questioned, Dan shrugged ” I was supposed too, but she’s sick or something “. ” Really? She seemed fine last night, when you asked her to hangout with you and Beth ” Phil stated, ” Wait… Isn’t Beth at Work? ” Pj asked with his eyebrow raised and a slight smirk on his face. Dan nodded, ” Then why did you tell her Beth was going to be there? ” Pj asked. Dan shrugged again, ” I don’t know, I wanted to spend some time with Ellie… Alone. Ever since I started dating Beth, Ellie and I’s friendship isn’t really the same, she’s just always making up excuses, it’s like she doesn’t want to hangout with me anymore ” Dan sighed. ” Or, she doesn’t want to hangout with you and Beth….. ” Phil smirked, ” What? Why not? ” Dan asked stupidly. Pj and Phil chuckled, ” Maybe she still has feelings for you, Dan remember, Ellie’s the type of girl who ignores people when things get too real ” Pj stated. ” Because you’re supposed to be with Ellie, not Beth ” Phil exclaimed, Dan only rolled his eyes at the opinions of his friends. ” We have a past, but that’s all it is, a Past ” Dan stated ( But he didn’t wanna believe that, truthfully Dan felt the same way Ellie did, they were in Love with each other, just too afraid to admit it ), ” My guess is, she’s not sick and she just made up an excuse, so she wouldn’t have to look at you and Beth being all mushy with each other ” Phil sighed. Pj nodded, ” If you would’ve told her the truth, she probably would hangout with you ” Pj added. Dan sighed ” Don’t gang up on me, I know lying to her is wrong, but I don’t know how I can get her to hangout with me “, ” I’m sure you’ll think of something ” Phil smiled and Dan Nodded.

[ Back to Ellie’ s P.O.V ] 

I was now in the lounge, with a big bowl of popcorn, a box of candy and a large soda. Obviously I was pretending like I was at the cinema, I just didn’t know what to watch. I decided on insidious : Chapter 2, A scary movie would do me some good ( Even though I had seen it 100 times ). As it started, my phone started to ring, it was Joe. ” Hey- Oh! ” I exclaimed into the phone, he chuckled on the other end. ” What are you doing…. ? ” he asked, I sighed ” I’m having a lazy movie day “. ” But I thought you were hanging out with Dan and Beth…. ” Joe questioned, I let out another deep sigh.       ” Really Ellie? You canceled again, Why? ” he asked, ” I don’t know, because I’m stupid ” I stated. He chuckled, ” Oh, by the way, Caspar and I are on our way over with food from the cafe ” he stated. ” Okay, the door’s already unlocked ” I started, but as I finished up that sentence, someone walked through my door. ” You shouldn’t just leave your door unlocked Ellie ” Dan stated, I stared at him strangely. ” Joe, I’ve got to go, I’ll see you in a few ” I sighed as I hung up the phone, ” What are you doing here? I thought you were going shopping with Beth? ” I asked. He shrugged, ” She’s got to work, so I decided to keep you company ” he smiled. I sighed and smiled, ” Well, okay… but we’re watching Insidious : Chapter 2 ” I stated. He rolled his eyes and nodded. Joe and Caspar showed up a few minutes later, with later with food from the cafe. I already felt like I was going to puke from all the junk food I already ate, So I just gave Dan the food they brought me. ” Hey Dan, Elle I thought you weren’t…. ” Caspar started, but I quickly shot him a look. He nodded and stopped talking.

[ A few Hours later ] 

" Ellie…. ? " Joe asked, " I’m awake! " I shouted as I quickly sat up on the sofa. " I told you Joe, she always falls asleep… " Dan chuckled, I rolled my eyes. " Maybe it’s because you’re all boring " I smirked, the three of them all made dramatic gasping noises. " That’s hurtful Ellie " Caspar joked,      " Take it back… " Dan smiled. I shook my head no, " Well, then I’ll just have to… " he stated as he began to tickle me ( Fuck, Fuck, Fuck ). I squirmed and laughed like a weirdo, Joe and Caspar chuckled from the other sofa. I glanced at them, so did Dan and he immediately stopped. He then quickly stood up, ” I’ve got to go, Beth get’s off in a bit and we have dinner plans ” he stated awkwardly as he left. He didn’t even give us enough time to say Bye, ” Well.. That was…. Weird ’ Joe sighed. I nodded in agreement, ” You guy’s should be a couple ” Caspar stated. I rolled my eyes       ( Why does everyone keep saying that? ), I decided to keep quiet. Caspar and Joe stayed through one more movie, but then they left. Every time I was alone, I thought about Dan and I’s relationship and Dan and Beth’s relationship. I hated this, all of this. I blamed myself for him moving on, I’m fucked up, that’s why I’m in therapy. But I was also extremely jealous, I wanted that relationship, but every time Dan and I even tried to date something always went wrong. Maybe it was all my fault, or maybe it’s not, I just need to learn to let go.
