Chapter 27. Pretending - Dan's P.O.V

I paced around the lounge, before collapsing on the sofa. I continued to ring Ellie, even though I should’ve given up, I just couldn’t. She was keeping her word and she wasn’t talking to me, it was driving me mad. All I wanted to do was talk to her, to hear her voice. I missed her, like crazy. Phil was out, he was over at Ellie’s with everyone else, trying to get her to speak. I felt bad, I wanted to be there, I wanted to help. I stared at my phone, I don’t know what I was waiting for. It was only a few minutes later when Phil walked in…. With Scottie. I sprang up from the sofa and rushed toward them, ” So? ” I asked impatiently. They both sighed, ” She’s talking again ” Scottie stated. I let out a sigh of relief, ” Why’d she stop? ” I questioned. ” Well, Beth found out and confronted her. Calling Ellie horrible names, Beth told her that she was ruining your life, that she was a life ruiner ” Scottie sighed, I balled my fists with anger ( But I was keeping a secret from them ). ” What Ellie and I did was not Ellie’s fault, I made the first move, because I wanted her. Beth shouldn’t have gone over there and said any of that! ” I exclaimed. ” Well apparently, Beth was able to make Ellie fell worse, than she already did ” Phil stated, I shook my head. Scottie then let out a deep sigh, ” So, we’re all going to Nando’s tonight, I think you should come. I think she needs to see you ” Scottie stated. I looked at him confused, ” I can’t, she’s not going to talk to me, she doesn’t want to see me ” I sighed checking my phone again. ” Sure, she might not talk to you, but I think she needs to see you. She’s still not the same and I know she misses you ” he stated, ” Why are you inviting me? Why are you trying to help me? ” I asked. He shrugged, ” Dan, look at yourself. You’re miserable and so is she, I want Ellie to be happy and I know she’s her happiest when she was with you ” Scottie smiled. ” But, You like her too.. ” I sighed staring down, ” True, I do like Ellie. A lot more than a friend, but she doesn’t want me ” he sighed. I let out another deep sigh, ” Okay, What time should I be there? ” I asked. Phil smiled ” 5:30 pm “, I nodded. Not much else was said after all that, Scottie just left and Phil followed an hour later.

As I walked into the restaurant, I knew I shouldn’t of been there. It was wrong to just show up, I knew it was gonna cause drama. I noticed the happy group sitting in the far back, they were smiling and laughing. I wished I was apart of it. As soon as one person saw me, they all looked over at me. Most of them looked angry and confused, except Ellie. She was stuffing salad in her mouth and even though she had salad dressing dribbling down her chin, she still looked adorable. Things changed when she looked at me, ” Hey ” I sighed standing by the table weirdly. ” Hey ” a few of them sighed, but she stayed quiet. I could tell she was mad, But I pulled up a chair and sat between Pj and Phil anyway. She let out a deep frustrated sigh and then looked over at Scottie, who just kind of shrugged. Conversations carried on at the table, but I sat there with my eyes on Ellie, all she did was stare down at a plate of pasta ( Great, I ruined her night ). ” Ellie, are you okay? ” Pj questioned, she nodded as she continued to stare at her plate. ” She’s obviously not! ” Alec stated, I looked over at Alec, only to get a glare in return ( I knew this was a mistake ). ” She was fine, until he showed up! ” Alec stated, I looked back at Ellie who was looking even more uncomfortable. ” Who the Hell invited him? ” she questioned, I hadn’t heard her voice in a while, but it was different ( She was hurt ).            ” Maybe I should go ” I sighed, but I don’t think anyone heard me. ” I did ” Scottie sighed, Ellie stared at him confused. ” Why? ” she asked him, he shrugged ” Because I think you two need to talk “. She then glared at him, ” I don’t want to fucking talk to him, if I wanted to talk to him, I would’ve answered the billion phone calls he makes to me! I thought out of everyone you would’ve had my back, now move I’m Leaving! ” she spat ( Well that was a slap in the face ). Scottie shook his head no, ” If you don’t move, I will gladly crawl over this table just to leave ” she spat and glared at Scottie. He just continued to shake his head ( Oh My Gosh, just let her Leave ), ” You can’t always run from your problems ” Scottie stated ( It sounded like he was mocking her ). Ellie continued to glare at him, ” Elle, I’ll move. Because I don’t think anyone wants to see a pregnant girl crawl across a table ” Zoe sighed ( Thank You ). She glared at Scottie and myself one last time, before walking out of the restaurant. ” Should someone go after her? ” Caspar asked, Alec and Scottie both nodded. ” I’ll go ” Scottie stated as he stood up, he was a good person like that, he cared for her a lot ( If I couldn’t have her, that Scottie should ). Things got extremely awkward, I couldn’t avoid the glare I was getting from Alec. After a few minutes of weirdness, Scottie walked back into the restaurant. ” She’ll be okay, she just wants some time alone ” he sighed sitting back in his seat, everyone just nodded. ” Well, Dan and I have to get going…. To get ready for the radio show, not because this is awkward ” Phil rambled, I rolled my eyes as I started to stand up. ” I’m sorry Dan, I thought she’d talk to you ” Scottie sighed, I nodded. ” Thanks for inviting me though ” stated with a small smile, he nodded in response.  

A few hours later Phil and I were standing in the radio station, getting ready for tonight’s show. ” Do you think she still watch’s our show? ” Phil asked at the worst time, I never even thought about it. I shrugged ” I don’t know, probably not. Phil she clearly hates me, you saw how she reacted tonight “, Phil nodded. ” Or she just thinks you’re perfectly fine with everything, I bet she’s watched the show and because you act , maybe she thinks you’re okay ” Phil stated, I rolled my eyes. ” What do you mean, the way I act? ” I questioned, he sighed. ” You put up a front, you pretend that you’re okay. But I know you’re not, neither is she though ” he stated, all I could do was nod. I guess Phil was right, I was pretending to be alright. I just didn’t want anyone to see me down, I just wanted to see her again. ” How do I get her to talk to me? ” I asked Phil, he shrugged. ” Do something drastic, show her you still care ” he sighed, I nodded as the show started. I still hadn’t made up my mind on what I wanted to do, but it would happen soon. Just because I didn’t always show it, this guilt was eating me alive and it needed to stop.
