And So the Drama Continues

“You’re going nowhere in this forest! You’re just going to get lost!” John yelled after me as we were running around the stage circling the table, “Come back!”
“Go away!” I shouted back and kept running. I glanced back and saw John retreating to backstage instead of making a turn and following me, and that was when Edward came out with a toy sword strapped on his belt. I wanted to giggle, but I stifled it.
I ran into Edward and he steadied me, “Are you okay, ma’am?”
“Pl – please help me!” I said breathlessly – that run with John was a real run, “My sic – sick husband’s chasing me and he wants to hurt me! Please help me!”
“Don’t worry ma’am!” Edward grabbed my hand, “I’ll help you!”
He led me towards the table and he urged me to hide under it. I stayed close to the leg of the table and clutched it tightly, as Edward scooted down beside me and I could feel his body heat all over my back. Ahh!
Then John appeared on stage again and he ran around the table looking for me.
“Where is that woman?” he said angrily, “I’m going to get her!” and he ran backstage again.
Edward slid out of the table – I could tell by the absence of his body heat – and I turned around to take his extended hand.
We both stood up and he kept his grasp on my hand, “Come with me, it’s not safe here,” he said, and led me towards the side of the stage again.
“Go set up the chairs,” we switched off our mics, and Edward told the two boys and they ran off to move the chairs onto the stage around the table, “So now we’ll be in my hut and we’ll introduce ourselves – make sure you mention that you’re actually the queen – and we’ll do a little dance towards backstage,”
“Okay,” I seemed to be calmer now, as I was more into the play at the moment. But dance? Oh no, this reminded me of last Friday night.
“Turn on your mic and we’re ready to go,” Edward said and took my hand, making me blush. He held my gaze for a moment and stepped out of the curtains.
We sat down on the chairs, and Edward began to talk, “Well, that was close… My name’s Eric by the way,”
“Thank you for saving me Eric… I’m Snow White,” I said.
“Snow White? That’s a lovely name,” he smiled at me, and my breath was caught in my throat – I was lucky that I did not fall straight off the chair because he dazzled me big time, “Do you mind if I ask you what’s happening with you and your husband?”
“I – I’m actually the queen, even though I don’t want to be,” I said, recovering from Edward’s dazzling smile.
“Wh – what?” he exclaimed, pretending to be startled, “You’re the queen? And it was the king who was chasing after you?”
I nodded, “Yes, but he’s a very, very cruel man who practically locks me up and beats me. I escaped from him and… I don’t know what I can do… I just hate him so much but I’m not strong enough to get rid of him!”
“No wonder he looks familiar,” Edward said thoughtfully, “You know… I became a hunter and live in the forest because I’m sick of being in the city, under the rule of the heartless king… I didn’t know he’d be the same when it comes to treating his own wife!”
I sighed.
“Don’t worry… You can stay here as long as you like, and I can protect you, ma’am,”
“Just call me Snow White,” I smiled small at him, “Thanks for the offer but, he’ll kill you if he ever finds us!”
He smiled back, “And when he comes… Snow White, I’ll fight him back for the country’s own good and for you,”
Oh God. I really felt like I was in a fairytale now.
And just like on cue, a soft piece of music started to play in the background. I glanced slightly back towards backstage and saw John operating the computer. He caught me looking, and grinned suggestively. I blushed, thinking that he was also recalling the memory of last Friday, and he winked at me.
WHAT WAS HAPPENING?
I quickly looked back at Edward, and he offered me his hand. I took it, and stood up with him.
Without warning, he yanked me towards him so I slammed into his chest. He caught me by my waist with the other hand and with one arm wrapped securely around me and the other one holding my hand, he began to slow dance with me.
Was this reality, or was I dreaming? The students below began to cheer, and I blushed furiously. This was real.
I peeked up at Edward through my lashes and saw his eyes boring into me intently, a slight grin lingering around the corner of his mouth. I bet his thoughts were also on the same thing as John and I. My heart rate sped up, remembering their teasing dance routine at the club.
And I could feel the heat emitting from his body and his hot breath on top of my head as well as his steady heartbeat. He was not affected by the whole thing at all. I wondered what he was thinking exactly right now.
Then Edward released my body, lifted my arm and made me do a spin. He pulled me back against his body again, then we slowly swayed towards backstage in sync with the music.
“Alright, you two go get those furniture off the stage” Edward turned off our mics with a small smile and directed the two students, and turned to me, “In the next scene I’ll chase you out onto the stage and we’ll pretend to be playing hide and seek or something – make sure you say something though, or it’d look awkward – and then I’ll catch you and we’ll declare our love for each other.”
I stared at him, not able to respond. I thought I heard the last phrase wrong… How was I supposed to do that in front of the students? I mean, this was not true, but that would be very embarrassing! Hopefully my words would not be stuck in my throat when it came to that part.
“You heard me right,” Edward answered me like he knew exactly what I was thinking about.
“O – okay,” I stuttered at last.
Edward then looked up towards where John was on the other side of the stage and nodded at him.
“Snow White and Eric spend every day together, and Eric dares not let Snow White out of his sight,” John said, being the narrator at the moment, “And they’ve both grown to like each other more and more.”
“Oh God will they kiss?” I heard someone in the audience shouted. I widened my eyes, and looked up at Edward. He just shrugged with a sly grin and gave me a gentle push, signaling me to run out onto the stage. Uh-oh, what did that mean?
