Light in the Darkness

I snapped my eyes open, and shut them tightly again – it was too bright. Where was—
My babies! My eyelids fluttered open again and my hands flew down to my bump – it was still there, and just like trying to assure me that they were okay, one of the twins inside kicked me. I breathed a sigh of relief.
“Our babies are okay,” a too-familiar voice rang from beside me, which immediately caught my attention as well as startling me.
I shifted my gaze and stared at the two blond boys next to my bed? Oh, I was in a hospital… And I remembered everything now... AND THEY KNEW? They said “our babies”!
They looked tired but relieved and… Slightly annoyed. Why though?
“Why are you two – what is going on?” I was really confused. I thought Sandy was the one that I called?
“Yes, you called Sandy,” John started – he was the one sitting close to me – like he was able to read my thoughts and answered my questions, “But then she called us – we didn’t know it was this messed up for you!”
“What?” I blinked. What he had said had caught me off guard, and I no longer felt pain like the last time we talked.
“We arrived at your house with her, and – and you…” John’s voice broke at the last part, and he and Edward were both suddenly masked in a painful expression, like the memory they had at my house hurt them… What?
“You were lying there, not moving, all pale and cold,” Edward continued for his brother and whispered, “We thought you were – you were—” he gulped.
I interrupted them and my heart broke at their faces. I knew what they were going to say anyway, “And?” I prompted.
“Sandy told us the whole thing when we all came here and waited while the doctor was busy with you,” John composed himself and continued, “Your three best friends just left, by the way.”
I nodded, telling them that I understood.
“How could you? How could you do this to us? To the innocent babies? And yourself?” John raised his voice and he buried his face into his palms, before grabbing hold of my now-boney hand – I froze, but relaxed as his thumb stroked repeatedly across my knuckles… The feeling was so familiar and I could tell there was no way I could avoid coming into contact with them now; I could feel the wall I was trying to build between us was starting to melt away…
“I’m glad that your friend decided to call us,” Edward said, but then furrowed his brows, “Although the way she got hold of our number is… Well, she said she saved it when they used your phone the other night to message us.”
I giggled. I had not giggled in a long time. Sandy! That sounded like her.
They smiled as I giggled, “That’s more like it,” Edward sighed happily.
“So your friend thought only having us back into your life can save you,” John continued the story, “Provided the state that you’re in… Gosh, how could you do that, (Yn)?”
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled, “But I had to.”
“Did you realize that you’re now the one heading down the dark path? By torturing yourself like that?”
“I’m sorry,” that was all I could say, “And I really thought—”
“Just… Forget about the past,” Edward stopped me and rested his hand on my blanketed thigh gently, “Just let us take care of you… And our babies.”
“When did you know?” I asked in a whisper.
“When we saw you at the mall,” he replied, “You’re a bad liar, (Yn).”
“And we know you too well that you can never trick us,” John added.
“But… Why? You two just acted like you believed me,” why did they not do anything to get me back then? I was confused.
“Because that was what you wanted,” Edward explained, “And even though we could see that you’ve lost a lot of weight and was tired and stuff – we knew it’s common after we… Broke up, and thought you wanted to be away from us and we would give you what you wanted, and you’d eventually get better… But look at you now!” he gestured to my arm which had a needle stuck into it attached to some kind of drips.
“You know,” I muttered, “I’ve never stopped loving you two.”
I looked up to see their eyes widen. Surely they knew that?
“I thought you have figured that out?” I raised an eyebrow at them.
They shook their heads. Oh, these boys, always thinking that they did not deserve love from someone else. No wonder they thought being away from them was what I truly wanted.
“And you know,” John said, looking at his lap, like he was about to confess something, so I listened closely, “We almost went back to that… Dark path of ours. When you left.”
I gasped. No!
“But we didn’t,” Edward looked me in the eyes, “Seeing you at the mall the other day reminded us of what you’ve done for us. You see, we can’t live without one another.”
“We keep one another on track,” John agreed. Of course he did!
“This is not getting us anywhere, this away-from-one-another thing,” Edward said softly, “Please, come back to us (Yn). Do you want our babies to have no fathers?”
I had not thought of that. I bit my lip.
“Let us take care of you,” John said; it was a plea.
“But it’s… Wrong,” I said, the reason of why I had to leave earlier returning to my head.
“But no one has to know about this,” John said, “And what is done is done.” He waved his free hand towards my bump.
“We can continue like what we always did,” Edward added.
“How about the children when they’re born? Won’t they find that weird? It’s just not right!”
“Let’s just tell them that one of us first got together with you and then we broke up, so you got with the other one and it was such a short time that you got pregnant with them at the same time… And we decide to look after them together,”
“Will that work? It’s all so messed up!”
“Not as messed up as you are when you left,” John said, his voice once again laced with pain. That memory was really painful, and I guessed he was thinking of me lying on the floor earlier again. I had to agree, and having my hand in his was really, really soothing.
“We won’t allow you to go back to that state again,” Edward shivered, “You almost killed yourself!”
“I’m sorry,” I mumbled automatically at them as he was getting slightly mad at me.
But then their expressions softened, “Come on, (Yn),” John said gently, “Come back to us?”
I nodded. This might be the best solution.
They grinned at me, and I could not help but grinned back. They leaned forward and wrapped me in a group hug.
Even it seemed wrong, but in this way, we could keep one another in the light, or we would just head into our different paths of darkness…
“Oh,” I winced as one of the twin babies kicked me.
“What?” my blond angels – yes, mine – immediately backed away and hovered over me nervously.
“Calm down,” I chuckled, “They just kicked!”
“Really?” their eyes lit up and stared at my bump, fascinated. I put their hands against my belly.
Just like on cue, they kicked again, and we all burst out into joyful laughter.

15th April 2015: My second story to get through 500! It escalated so quickly after I put up the remaining half of the story! Thank you so much! And I have to say, I got quite doubtful about this story from time to time because I'm not so used to writing such steamy scenes, and I have seriously considered taking it down a couple of times... Idk but, I hope you enjoyed reading the whole thing! :)
