I wake up before the sun is up and after an hour of failing to fall back to my dreamless sleep, quit pretending. I sit up and make my way to the window to sit on the ledge for some fresh air.
I watch the moon for it's the only thing I left of home. It doesn't feel real yet. How long will I wake up forgetting where I am or running down a burning street trying to find my siblings?
My uncle and I had been defending one side of the road and we managed to push the enemy back to the riverside when his fatigue and chakra usage got to him. He sent me back to create a second line of defense by the buildings.
While I created multiple traps of seals he was surrounded by six Stone ninjas. He used an explosion seal to destroy them all.
The blast threw me back into the safe zone. Safety wasn't going to last long, the other side had been blasted through as well and my seals would only kill the first few approaching me. We were about to be surrounded. I scrambled to my feet and ran for the store where the others were hiding.
I push back the memories and get dressed, I don't have anything of them. Hatakis eyes are all I have left of my family.
I slip out to an empty training area. I want to train alone for a bit. I wanted to try and get more understanding of my newfound abilities.
I wanted to see why my brother thought taking his eyes would be my best bet in life if I survived.
On the second week of the attack, I lost my father when they broke through the front lines with water and ice users. We were separated when I rushed after the ones that got through the line.
I had just killed two of the five when I felt my father's chakra presence disappear.
My older brother Kai avoided the incoming attacks by being behind the lines but got flanked by six ninjas from behind. I used my chains to kill the two who were shooting ice at him and he managed to kill the other four before we went to move our siblings from the hiding place.
It was after that we came across the street my uncle had been defending. I had to tell him his son and his brother were dead.
As the smallest of the group, I and another are sent out of the safety zone to set up exploding seals for the enemies to trigger them.
I began adding seals to a few bodies in case they decide to return for their dead before rushing back to safety.
It doesn't feel like the attack on my home went on for three weeks. We had been surrounded after a week. So who knows how many managed to escape in that first week?
On our last day there, we began fleeing for I had finally gone blind and Kai was beginning to lose his sight. We had to flee before we had nothing left as well.
We were almost out when Shirois caught the eye of someone on the floor south of us.
"Aunt Fu!" Shiroi ran after out and before we could stop her, she came to a halt as she neared our aunt.
"Aunt Fu," she whispers seconds later I hear her vomiting.
"Shirori what's wrong?" Kai asks as he shuffles the weight of me on his back.
"No! Don't, don't come over. It's not worth seeing. Let's just go, there's nothing we can do," she returns to us.
Kai sets me down, maybe he realizes the same as me, our aunt was never alone. Where are the children?
"She didn't even see it coming," I hear him mutter as he approaches our aunt.
"I think they did," Shiori speaks up from the other side of the street.
"What is it? Is it the kids? Did they get them too?" I question them.
"Yeah they're here too Yuki," they return to me and help me back up."Let's get moving then," they agree and Kai puts me back onto his back and we move on.
"Do you think she died first or was she forced to watch her children be murdered before they took her life?" Shiori questions but we had no answer.
"If they saw their mother go down they probably fled," I say instead.
"It's our turn to flee Shirori, we've done what we can," Kai squeezes her shoulder and helps her up.
We continue down back roads to avoid being seen, I don't have enough chakra to conceal us and fight a winning fight.
We rush down another alley nearing the waterfront again, "if we get into the forest we can run for it. The Leaf Village is our ally -"
"Every village is here you believe the Leaf isn't involved?" Shirori speaks up.
I look at Kai and question him too, "we are-" I cut him off this time.
"Were. We were the greatest alliance, it's why we're being attacked, Kai. If the Leaf isn't involved then there's been a major communication blackout to them," Kai sighs and resigns he agrees it's suspicious.
"It's been three weeks Kai. Help would have arrived by now," Shiroi speaks up.
"Then we flee to a smaller country. It doesn't matter as long as we get out of here," He responds and we nod in agreement.
It doesn't matter where we go, as long as we survive.
"Let's go. The coast is clear," Shiori says after scouting for a few minutes.
We rush down the burning road only to get stopped by screaming women begging. "'They're just children! Please they're children!" I cannot see but I can sense what's happening as we run from the scene.
"Shiroi no!" Kai shouts angrily as she turns back to the Uzumaki.
"Shiroi you're going to die with them!"
Eight ninjas against two civilians and thirteen children will never end well.
"Leave me and go get her! I can conceal myself with the chakra I have left."
"Yuki?" I hear someone call me.
"Yuki."
I come to and my chains automatically activated, as I turn to see who's called me, a chain goes past his head.
