The Underlying Secrets.

Chapter 25

We all look at each other, trying to find answers in his one word. Still, not to defy him we sit on each chair placed in front of us. First was Ivy on the right end, then beside her is Aiden then Ethan, then me, beside me is Jade and beside him is Lucas and then Charlott. We all sit there waiting for him to say something. After few minutes of uncomfortable silence, Mr. Augustine speaks up,

"I don't prefer everybody to be here but what can I say. Sometimes even the weed can fertilize the barren land." He turns to look at everybody with boredom and his same strict face. Analyzing each one, and then turning to me with a small smile creeping on his face, which is still very unusual to me.

"Valarie, I have a favor to ask, I think you can fulfill that?" he looks at me with determination in his eyes. From the corner of my eyes, I see Jade who has his head down, staring at the floor comatose.

I wonder why is he assigning me something when his own son is sitting beside me. I look up at him and give a nod.

"You have to go to Rome for a few days, there is some business pending and you are the only one I can trust and is assured on can finish the task without carelessness so I would like you to handle it." He says emphasizing on trust, making Jade tie his fist in a hard grip, turning it almost white.

I wish I could help him in that situation but that's the main problem, I still am oblivious of this whole act by Mr. Augustine whose own blood is sharing the room with him.

"Okay Mr. Augustine." I give him a small nod.

"And I thought maybe you would want some company there so you can take your friends there and enjoy a bit. That's why I called you here. You will leave tomorrow, in the morning, I will get the plane ready." He explains, though all this time I was just thinking as to how Charlott hasn't commented anything yet obviously I just think too early sometimes.

"Oh, you don't have to do that 'Mr. I am a greedy man with money and would do anything for it', we don't need your help. Even if we have to go in the public class, we will travel without your hand" Char practically spats her words out venomously, having her sole eye on Mr. Augustine. At this point, he is fuming red with anger. Before things can escalate, I butt in again.

"Yes Mr. Augustine, Maa and Dad are already coming today, we can travel in my jet, I will contact the pilot today itself." I say, trying to keep the tension a little at bay. Mr. Augustine looks my way for a second and then back to Charlott.

"Very well, and Miss Charlott Homes you behave with me and keep your anger at the leash or you won't like what happens the next time I open my mouth and speak something that won't be of your liking." At this time, the air became the thickest in the big room.

Nobody spokes of anything, standing all still and mixed with confusion and anger. It wasn't a secret in itself that many secrets are lingering in this room, stuffed in each corner, in each one of us, pouncing to come out but still, giving us one last chance to keep things conventional, hiding all our ugly sides from this cruel world.
