Thunderstorm Before The Blackout.
Chapter 51
We make our way towards the office, walking through the long corridor, hand in hand and a little scared. I don't know what to think any more of Uncle Elijah. He has always been good to me, a little too good than others, always took care of me, praised me for my good work, favored me every time. So right now, I don't who I am going to meet in the office my Uncle Elijah or Mr. Augustine or Jade's father with what I have concluded is no more or less Mr. Augustine.
Like what he's for the world, he's for his son.
Right now, the only word which can describe Jade's posture is Tense. He doesn't know what is going to come in the next ten minutes and the same goes with me though all I can do is be with him, tell him he is not alone. But I know how it is to be surrounded by people you love but still, feel alone because you are the closest experience of what you are going to feel even though a person's support in life matters it can just never be enough to feel something that the only person is going through.
I want to hold his hand but at the same time I know he must want his space, to prepare himself, enough to let pass through this conversation with his dad, and after that, I can be there for him. Be with him. Just Us. We reach the door and before I could, Jade beats me to it and knock on the door when we hear a come in from inside. With one last exhale of breath, he opens the door and we go in with him first and me following him.
Once we are settled, I look beside me to meet the guy I first saw in the charity house. The emotionless blank Jade is staring right at his father with no emotions whatsoever. His hands at the back and his back erect as a stick shoved up his spine. It's heartbreaking to him like this with his father, with his only family.
"Take a seat." He finally says, taking his eyes off the paper he was holding, removing his specs, and pinching the bridge of his nose. We both take a seat on the chair settled in front of his desk and look back at him who is eyeing both of us. When his gaze stops at me and his mouth lifts up in a smile. "Valarie, how are you?" He says and I loosen up a bit to finally decide that for me right now he is Uncle Elijah. I smile back a little and answer.
"I am good Uncle Elijah, how have you been?"
"As fit as your old man can be. It's good to see you smiling. We have finally met after your trip to Rome, and for that, I would like to thank you for the deal. I am proud of you." On the last line, I notice Jade tensing up more than before making me feel the emotion like sympathy, hurt and surely not pity. I smile back at Mr. Elijah,
"Thank you, but as you know it was not all me, Jade helped me a lot. I am actually thankful he was there, he managed to save you a deal." I say indicating a secret message which I hope he takes well after listening to their today's conversation. Uncle Elijah turns to Jade with a surprised look and a little of proud which goes in the instant as it came making me sigh. He clears his throat and composes himself,
