All the storybooks my parents read me as a child may have lead me to a false sense of security believing that my life would be just like them, you know the ones with the happy endings. But clearly, that had been untrue, real life is nothing like a bedtime story. Life is scary and full of big plot twists that you could never predict. The first was finding out I had an older sister...

Getting introduced to my big sister was a strange thing. Dad was hovering the whole time and both of us got the giggles because we felt so awkward. Mum and Dad had told me the whole story before I got to meet her. How she was in foster care and aunt Dahlia and all the details of how she ended up here...I felt guilty that I got to have her life.

And I felt worse when she didn't want to meet me right away. She lived in the compound with us before she stayed in Aunt Bex's old room on the top floor away from me. She mostly stayed there. Sometimes I would hear her walking about in the night and I and Nik would rush to our doors to catch a glips of her. I remember thinking she was the most beautiful person I'd ever seen. I still think she is now. She was beautiful inside too. Sometimes she comes across as brutal and means but that's just to protect herself from being hurt, and to protect me too. Our first year at the school was brutal.

We weren't supposed to be sisters, but we were and it was a hard concept for my 12-year-old brain to wrap my head around. Dad actually wanted us to just completely ignore each other. And we did publically. Luna snuck into my dorm room most nights to check on me. She was always worried about me because I didn't make any friends right away. The truth is everyone was pretty mean to me. I tried to hide it from Luna but I knew she secretly knew what was happening. We were pushed out of every click because we were different. We weren't just wolves or witches. And we weren't vampires despite our blood. We were different and everyone knew it and everyone hated it.

Luna had that face, she looked sweet, she was pretty she just fit in with some of the witches, the Saltzman twins especially. They were in some of my classes too. Lizzie always looked mean and Josie just followed what her sister did so I never bothered them until Luna said I had to sit with her at lunch. She was a good big sister. She looked after me, she always found a way to look out for me even when she was told to stay away.

I remember when I first got to meet Luna, after we got past the giggling and mum dragged dad away to leave us to just talk and get to know each other, I felt a connection to her. I felt stronger, I felt safer. Her smile reminded me of Mum, it still does actually, I always feel protected when I'm around Luna. She wouldn't let anyone hurt me. She would always go ape at kids in our classes when they were mean or even slightly disrespectful... she didn't do it for just me she defended Lizzie and Josie too. Though she always got extra bitchy when it came to defending me. One time Rick removed her from class for a week because she choked a guy out... She reminded me of dad, sometimes she showed mercy, which was more like mum but when she was reacting after someone would hurt my feelings it's like a switch would flick. Her happy persona would be shut down in seconds and she looks like she could murder a small village. I guess we get that from our father.

But Luna and I had this connection and I could tell she felt it too though neither of us ever spoke about it. Not until I was 16. My dad took me to New Orleans to help him with a vampire problem. Nightwalkers thinking they could take over his town. Dad distracted mum and Luna by sending them to some spa in Mystic falls whilst he took me out. It was one of the only times we saw them out of the school gates.

I was in the church and I did the spell as my father had asked ending the revolution that the nightwalkers were trying to succeed with and they all died. Though we didn't know that an innocent man was in the loft of the church and I crushed him with ruble that fell during the spell. I had triggered my curse. Luna knew before I even told her. When I got back to the school two days later she dragged me into the gym I didn't even get the chance to talk to mum.
