Chapter Three

It was eight at night and Jessica had never felt more alive, she was in the studio recording her new album Beautiful Platinum Edition. She had already recorded a few songs from it earlier in the year and released them as singles. They seemed to be doing really well on the charts. She had stepped out of the studio for a little bit to just stand on the beach and watch the waves. She just a needed a moment away from Emily’s constant buzzing and from the producers who were beginning to get on her nerves. They let her write half on the album and they said that if they let her sing about what she wanted to. She had to sing five songs that they had written. She knew that some singers liked to sing other people’s songs but she didn’t. Jessica thought that it ruined the creative process and didn’t give the right to express herself as an artist. Jessica was immersed in her thoughts and just staring up at the moon. Until she heard footsteps coming. She didn’t want to pay attention to who it was. This was her time alone, but she dared to look to see who the footsteps were from. She saw the most beautiful man, he was tall about six foot and he had blonde hair and blue eyes that matched the ocean. He would have been perfect except for the frown that was on his face. He looked like the most unhappiest person on earth. Jessica found herself wanting to comfort him and take his pain away. He had the potential to be really beautiful if he just wouldn’t look so angry.

“I’m Paul Lightfield you must be Jessica.”
She stood up and dusted herself off. “Yes I am.”
“My parole officer said that you chose me to be your new body guard.”
“Yes I did.”

“Why?”

“What?” she asked.

He looked at her like he wanted to know the answer right away and like she was the most vile person on the planet. “Is it because of my criminal record?”

“No it’s not-“
He cut her off. “You’re lying of course it is, you thought that since I was arrested for killing a man. I would be a good protector. Little princess needs protecting.”
She was taken aback by that comment, he was being really rude she was starting to become angry. “First of all I’m not a princess and I choose you because I thought that you maybe wanted to start over and not be such a terrible person.”

“Well I don’t need to, I’m fine.”

“You know I heard about your case when I saw it on the news I thought something.”

“What was that?”

“There’s no way that man’s guilty.”
He didn’t say anything just stood there with his arms crossed over his chest in a defense stance. He had been so rude to her but still she thought that maybe just maybe there was the slightest chance that he could be redeemed.

“I have to get back.” She said. “Are you coming? I can introduce you to everyone.

“Yeah but I just need you to know one thing first.”

“What’s that?”
