Chapter fifth teen
Jessica was in Tokyo, getting ready for her second show of the day, So far her schedule had been exhausting ever since she had arrived here. She barely had time to check her voicemail, not that anyone was calling her anyway. It had been a month since she last heard from Paul. Her heart ached every moment she had to spend away from him, every time she would close her eyes to dream at night, her mind always went back to the day she had to leave him behind. He had tears in his eyes, it hurt her to have to leave him like that. But he had wanted her to give up everything, she knew that if there was one guy in this world she quit her singing career for it would be him. But this was her dream and she had made a promise to herself that she would see it through until the end.
Emily was on the bed of Jessica’s hotel room talking on the phone to HR rep, something had happened with someone who worked for Jessica. Jessica had thought it was just some make up artist that had gotten hurt. Whoever it was Emily didn’t sound too concerned.
“Okay, Is he okay?” asked Emily.
He? Okay maybe it wasn’t a make up artist, Jessica was interested now.
“No it’s okay, I’ll tell her. She wouldn’t want to hear it from a stranger. Just make sure his medical bills are taken care of since he’s on the pay roll.”
“Okay, thanks Mark, bye.” Emily said and hung up the phone.
“What was that about?” asked Jessica.
“It’s Paul.” Said Emily.
Jessica felt her heart stop in her chest, “What is it? What happened to Paul?”
“He was walking down a bad street last night, he was really drunk and-.”
Jessica cut her off. “And? What?”
“He was shot.”
Jessica gasped she felt like the ground beneath her was about to give way. She asked the only question she wanted an answer to.“Is he okay?” she asked Emily.
“Yes, he just got out of the hospital this morning.”
Jessica breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to her closet and started taking clothes off of hangers and putting them in her suitcase.
“What are you doing?” asked Emily.
“What does it look like I’m doing? I’m going back to California.”
“You can’t do that. The tour is booked until the end of the month.”
