Chapter Nineteen
Jessica finally pulled up to Riker's beach as the sun was setting. She smiled to herself it couldn't get any better than this. Today would be the day she finally reunited with Paul. She looked around for him, but didn't see him anywhere. She saw two little boys playing in the sand with their parents and a girl reading a book by the water. But she couldn't see him, she felt tears well up in her eyes.
He wasn't here.
Jessica had to laugh at herself of course he wasn't coming. She had been a fool to think he would still want to be with her after everything that happened. She had just quit her career and all for a man who didn't even want her. Jessica reached in her pocket for her phone. Maybe she could call Emily and beg for her job back.
Jessica stopped when she noticed something.
She saw a man with very well define shoulders sitting in the sand with his feet in water. He had blonde hair that shone in the sunlight. She wasn't sure if it was him, but there was something inside her that was propelling her towards him. She had to know if it was him. She had to see.
As she got closer she tapped the man on the shoulder He turned around and Jessica saw that it was him.
It was Paul.
He smiled and stood up. "I was beginning to think you weren't coming." He said.
"Funny I thought the same about you."
"I wasn't going to miss this."
"Miss what?"
Paul just smiled and picked her up and kissed her. Jessica felt herself smile as he deepened the kiss. She opened her eyes a little bit to see the beautiful sunset before them. In this moment she was happy.
In this moment she was home.
When they finally stopped kissing and he put her done. Jessica noticed that she was crying. Paul tried his best to comfort her.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing it's just We have been through so much. I didn't even think that was possible that we would get back together. Ever since my parents died. I never felt like I've had a safe place to land. And now I feel like I finally do."
"I'll never let you go again Jess."
Jessica smiled. "You won't have to because I'm not leaving you. Ever again."
Paul smiled he was starting to cry too. "What about the label?"
"It doesn't matter I told Emily off and I quit."
Paul smiled. "So you finally got a back bone?"
"Yes and it's all because of you. It's all your fault Paul."
Paul smiled. "I forgave my mother."
"Really?"
"Yeah and that's totally your fault."
Jessica smiled but then felt it fade. "What about Melissa?"
Paul's gaze didn't waver as he looked deep into her eyes with his ocean blue eyes. "What about her? I've only ever loved you. It's always been you Jessica."
Jessica smiled. "Kiss me again before the sun goes down. I just want this moment to last forever."
Paul smiled. "I've never wanted to stay frozen in a moment all my life. But this I never want to let go off.'
Jessica smiled as she wiped away her tears and Paul smiled as he swept her up into his arms again and kissed her as the sun went down.
Jessica felt her heart swell with love.
This was the closet she would ever get to heaven.
