Chapter fourteen

One month later

Paul used to be able to drink his weight in beer, but lately he found himself getting drunk off of four beers a night. That’s what he was doing in his brother’s house on a Saturday night. Brian came down the steps and saw his brother sitting there at the kitchen table.

“Whoa, you might want to slow down there brother.” Said Brian.

“Well I don’t want too, I plan out getting passed out drunk tonight.”

“She really got to you didn’t she?” Brian asked him.

“What? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Ever since you came back from that little vacation of yours. You haven’t been the same. You’ve been moping around for a month. Why can’t you just admit that you loved her?”

“Why do you want me to admit it? So I can let in the fact that every woman that’s ever meant something to me in my life, had left me. I don’t fucking think so.”
“Watch your mouth, Jenna might hear you.”

“I’m sorry man, I just need to get out of here.”

“Maybe you should talk a walk come back when you sober up.” Brian said.

“Okay.” Said Paul.

Paul wondered the streets of California past the night clubs and bars, he kept drinking his beer and drank even more when memories of Jessica started flooding in. The first night they met, the first night they want to an award ceremony together. The night that they almost made love, the night that they made love. Shit this was too much, she wasn’t here anymore but she was everywhere in his mind at the same time. Paul wondered down an alley way into what seemed to be a sketchy area. He started to kick a trash can, when he heard a voice behind him.

“Hey what do you know? The pretty boy’s all by himself.”

Paul knew that voice he turned around to find Sean Smith standing there with some of his buddies, who stood around Paul in a circle.

“I’m not in the mood tonight.” Said Paul.

Sean laughed and so did his friends “Oh I’m sorry let’s just leave him alone because he’s not the mood tonight! What’s the matter? Did your girlfriend break up with you?”

Paul looked down at the ground confirming Sean’s question.

Sean’s eyes lit up. “She did. Didn’t she? I knew you couldn’t hold on to her. You’re way to small time for her. Jessica likes a real man, who can rough her up a bit in bed.” Sean’s friends laughed and Paul felt his blood boil.

“I still can’t believe she left you all alone here. Pretty boy’s like you shouldn’t be out wondering these streets alone.”

“I can handle myself. I took you once.”

“I was drunk that night Lightfield. But I’m perfectly sober tonight, and this time you won’t get away.”

Paul could feel the circle of guys closer in on him. He smashed his beer bottle so it was cracked and stabbed on of the guy’s in the leg. The guy yelped and Paul ran to get away but before he could he heard gun shots, Paul looked down at his shirt, there was blood coming from his chest. He had been shot. He made it two blocks away before he fell to the ground. He called the 911 which was on his speed dial,

“911 what’s your emergency?” The operator asked.

“Yeah I need help. I’ve been short. 2228 Oakdale road,”

“Okay stay with me sir. Help is on the way.”

“Okay” Paul said but then slowly felt his vison blur and his eyes drift closed.

Note: Short chapter but there will be more on Monday. I promise Paul is not dead! But things are going to be diffrent when Jessica comes back to town.
