Chapter Ten
Jessica woke up the next morning tangled in sweaty sheets from her and Paul’s night together. They didn’t do anything but kiss but could still feel the power and passion from last night. She sat up to find he was nowhere to be found. She put her robe on and walked into the kitchen, she noticed a note on the counter. She figured it must have been from him, so she picked up to read it.
Jessica, I had to go, last night was amazing but I figured I would give you time to think. Where this is going with us. I just don’t think you’re ready for a relationship like that. I went home to my garage to think myself. I will call soon.
Paul.
Jessica flinched at his words, she couldn’t believe this was happening again. She didn’t tell him she was a virgin but maybe he heard Sean talking about it last night. She needed Paul around he was like a magnet, and really the only thing constant and real in her life. Everything else just felt like it was all a part of a made up story but it wasn’t like that when she was around him. She heard a knock at the door and noticed Emily was there. She sighed and walked over to the door to answer it.
When she opened the door, Emily smiled at her, and had a concerned look on her face.
“Hey how are you?”
“I’m fine. I’m guessing you heard about last night.”
“Yeah Sean’s manger called me this morning. He just said that Sean was really drunk and he didn’t mean any of it.”
“Yeah well it didn’t seem that way to me.”
Emily sighed. “Jess the record label wants you to do a press conference with Sean today. To say that it was a misunderstanding and that everything is back on track with you guys.”
“And if I don’t?”
“They could drop you, I just need you to really think about this. Sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do for the sake of our careers.”
“Okay I’ll do it, but I’m not going to like it.”
“You don’t have to it’s just for show. Outside of this you can date anyone you want. Just don’t let the record label get wind of it.”
“I won’t.”
“Okay see you at the board walk at five.”
“Okay.”
Emily walked out the door and Jessica just sighed. Paul was not going to like this.
Later that evening after trying to call Paul five times to no avail. It went straight to voicemail when she called him. Jessica sighed and put her hands in her pockets, she felt the warm air brush her hair back. She loved California but some days she longed for her simple life in Australia. She missed just singing for her friends and family. She had one friend in particular Lena who lived down there. She hadn’t talked to her in a couple months, so she would have to get down there soon to see her. She missed the beach and the crashing waves that she woke up to every day down there. She knew since she was a child that she wanted to be a famous singer. But lately the fame was starting to get to her. She saw a car pull up to the board walk and Emily got out of it, and then she saw Sean’s limo pull up and he got out. Jessica felt her heart beat with fear. Paul wasn’t here to protect her. She would have to get through this on her own.
