Chapter eight
When they reached Sean’s place he held out his hand for Jessica to take. She hesitated at first thinking maybe she shouldn’t lead him on. But he had always been there for her, it couldn’t hurt to be nice right? In the back of her mind she thought about Paul and what he would think about this. But deep down she knew that Paul was just using her to get the “big bucks” as he called it.
Jessica took his hand and they walked up the pathway to Sean’s million dollar mansion, Jessica had a beach house, and while it was nice and in a good neighborhood. It couldn’t compare to how big Sean’s house was in size. But Jessica just didn’t want to draw attention to herself. She liked that it was quiet where she lived.
Once they got inside, Jessica took a moment to look around at the loud party going on before them. She didn’t even recognize half these people, but then again when was the last time she went to a party? She wasn’t a party girl, more like a stay home on a Friday and Saturday night kind of girl, cuddled up with her notebook for writing her songs, her Ipod, her TV and a good romance novel. Jessica looked around once more and noticed that these people were really shady, they didn’t look like singers or even movie stars, they looked like drug dealers. She saw that one guy had tattoos all over his arms that spelled out If you can’t join em kill em. She felt vile rise up in her throat. These people were scary. She grabbed Sean’s hand tighter and decided to ask him about it.
“Who are these people Sean? They don’t seem like your usual people.”
Sean sighed. “You really don’t know me at all do you?”
“I just thought that you know I knew all of your friends.”
Sean leaned up against the kitchen sink beer in his hand. “Well these are my real friends.”
Jessica was beginning to feel even more uncomfortable. “What kind of things are you into Sean?”
He laughed dark and humorless. “Things that would scare you, things that would make you go home and hug your pillow tight and sleep with the lights on.”
“Are you a drug dealer?”
“I prefer the term entrepreneur.”
“Are you crazy? You could get caught and got to jail. You’re in the public eye Sean kids look up to you.”
“I don’t take that role model shit seriously. He said through clenched teeth, “When kids look up to me they think that if they were like me and could sing like me, they could get any girl into bed that they wanted. But they never will, because you have to be tough to make in this business. Which is why I never understood why you are so famous.”
