Chapter Seventeen.
Paul got back to Brian's house from his morning run and walked into the kitchen to get some coffee. Ever since he had taken PTO time off from work, he had been really bored, but he was glad because that gave him time to think. He mostly thought about Jessica, it had been a week since he last saw her and she made it clear that she was hurt by his actions. Paul reached into the fridge and took a bottle of orange juice out, he began to chug it, the orange liquid felt cool and refreshing as it made its way down his throat, he sighed than put it back in the fridge wiping off his sweaty forehead with his shirt. He sat down and his brother walked in.
"Hey man, I see you went for a run." Said Brian.
"Yeah, I just needed to clear my head."
"You know if you need anything I'm here and so is Jenna."
"Thanks for that man." Paul said smiling, his brother and Jenna had really been there for him while he was in the hospital and when he was first released. The understood that he needed time to heal physically as well as emotionally.
"So I had a thought." Said Paul.
Brian laughed. "Oh no here we go."
"No it's nothing like that, I was thinking I would go see mom today."
Brian's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Really? Are you sure you're ready for that?"
Paul looked at him trying to study is expression. "Yeah, I mean it's been years since I've see her. And I think that after all this time I'm ready to put the past behind me."
"Really?"
"Don't sound so surprised/" said Paul.
"I'm not its just forgiveness isn't really your thing."
"A lot has changed." Said Paul.
"I can see that." Said Brian.
Paul slapped his brother on the back playfully as he turned to leave. "I'm just lucky to have you keeping me line."
Brian laughed. "Don't mention it, I'm lucky to have you as my big brother."
"I'm going go before it gets too late. I'll see you tonight?"
"Yeah." Said Brian.
Paul made his way out the door and got in his truck and drove to a place he hadn't been in what seemed like forever. His mother's house.
