Chapter Two

It was six in the morning on Friday afternoon, and Paul Lightfield was sitting a jail cell, waiting for his parole officer to come down. He had been in this hell hole for a year he had been accused of killing his ex girlfriend’s new boyfriend. He knew that he didn’t lay a hand on him though. He could see why people thought he did it. He got there to talk to Melissa and Jace was in his face and slobbering drunk. Long story short, he and Paul got into a fight and Jace was laying the bloody on the ground, Melissa was crying and from out of nowhere a car comes around the corner and a man that had his face covered shot Jace dead. Soon the police came and just saw Paul with blood on his hands and Jace’s dead body on the ground. They had handcuffed him and he had been in jail ever since. But new evidence proved that he didn’t do it. So as of today as soon as his damn parole officer got here, he would be a free man. Paul was escorted to the visitor’s area where he got his handcuffs taken off, which felt really good and sat down across from his parole officer Mike.

Mike smiled at him,

Paul didn’t return the smile.

“Well you’ve been on good behavior and the judge has decided to let you out today following the recent evidence.” Said Mike.

Paul smirked his blue eyes sparkling. “Tell me something I don’t know.”

Mike looked like he wanted to punch him. “I got you a job since and a place to live. Your mom wants no part of it. So I called your brother Brian and he said that him and his wife would love to have you. So starting today you start working for Jessica Clementine as her new body guard.”

Paul had to laugh. “The singer she wants me?”

Mike didn’t laugh, he looked completely serious. “Those were her exact words.”

Paul sat back in his chair still smiling. “You have got to be kidding me. I won’t do it.”

“You don’t have a choice.”
“I’m not going to work from spoiled little princess, who’s entitled and doesn’t give a damn about anyone but herself.”

“Jessica isn’t like that, she’s a good family friend and I had to talk you up a lot to get this job. One of the conditions of your parole is that you become a functioning member of society that means working and having a job.”

“How much does it pay?”

“More than you’ve ever made in your life. SO should I call her and tell her it’s a go?”

Paul sighed. “I guess under one condition.”
“What’s that?”

“I don’t want a camera anywhere near me.”
Mike smiled this time. “I’m sure that won’t be a problem.

When Paul stepped out of the car he threw his bags down on the steps of his brother Brian’s and his wife Jenna’s house. Once he rang the doorbell Brian answered and smiled at his brother and pulled him into a hug. “Man it’s been too long.”

Paul didn’t hug him back. “I guess your cards got lost in the mail along with your visits.”
Brian looked hurt. “I’m sorry man, you know I would have came to see you. But mom wouldn’t let me.”

“And since when do you listen to what mom says?”
Brian didn’t have time to answer before his wife Jenna was at the door, grabbing Paul’s bag and telling him to come in. “Don’t be a stranger come in Paul.”

Paul smiled politely. “Thank you for having me.”
Jenna smiled. “Sure anyone who is Brian’s family is my family.”

Paul stepped inside and saw that the living room had pictures of Jenna and Brian together one on a beach here in California and some other ones with Jenna’s family. Paul thought they looked good together. But they both had blonde hair and blue eyes. Paul thought he wanted his women to be more exotic. He always liked the dark hair and brown eyes because his whole family was blonde hair and blue eyes which he thought was a little boring. Paul walked over to another picture which had Brian and their mother Cheryl in it. They had their arms around each other and were smiling. Paul had to keep the tears from falling. Ever since his dad had past away him and his mother had never been more a part from each other. When he got sent off to jail that was the nail in the coffin that was their relationship. Paul flinched when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

“You okay man?” Brian asked him.

“Yeah I’m fine, you got any beer?”
Brain laughed. “Some things never change.”

That night after dinner Jenna went up to bed and Paul and Brian sat in the living room watching a football game. During a commercial a new music video for Jessica Clementine’s Kiss me Hello came on. Paul groaned and shook his head.

Brian laughed. “What’s wrong not into girly music?”

“No it’s just I sort of have to work for her now.”
Brian sat up. “What you’re going to be working for Jess Clementine?”

“My parole officer thinks it will be good for me to a functioning member of society. He wants me to be her body guard.”
Brian laughed. “So you’re going to be her knight and shining armor?”
“No it’s just for the money it pays good.”

“That’s what they all say it won’t be too long before you guys are in love. Jenna’s a big fan of hers you should introduce them.”

“I don’t know how someone could be fan of such a fake person like her.”

“She’s hardly fake, she does loads of charity work, and her parents passed away in an accident in Darwin last summer. She was devastated, she sent a video out to her fans as to why her tour had to be cancelled. Then her last body guard quit on her because he kept getting into fights with her boyfriend.”

“Wow sounds real tragic.”

Brian laughed. “Come on I know it’s getting to you, you can pretend it doesn’t all you want.”

Paul just smiled and sipped his beer. “Who’s her boyfriend?”

Brian said. “Sean Smith.:
“That asshole I used to pants him in the third grade.”

“Yeah well I guess that motivated him to be the great person he is today”
Brian and Paul looked at each other then burst out laughing.
