Chapter five.
Jessica woke up the next morning to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach, she couldn’t help but think about Paul, and the way he was acting last night. One minute he was acting like he wanted to open to her. But then in an instant he just shut down, she sensed that he didn’t really want to tell her about prison or Melissa. She could only hope that he would open up when he was ready. Jessica sat on her porch and looked out at the beach. She loved just sitting outside in the mornings and working on songs. But it couldn’t compare to how beautiful the beach was outside her home in Darwin. Where she had grown up, sometimes she could imagine herself dipping her toes into the warm blue water and just slashing in the ocean like she did when she was little. She sat down and started humming to herself.
“Got me, walking on the sun, got me flying to the moon,”
“Got me talking to myself when nobody’s in the room.”
“That’s what you do to me.”
“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.”
“I remember the day everything changed, yeah you got with me with just one touch,”
“Oh what the hell tripped and I fell.”
“Yeah boy I fell in love.”
“What would I do without you here?”
“How did I breather when you’re my air?”
“If I had a time machine I would never go back.”
“To the day before I met you.”
She heard footsteps and put her notebook down, she stood up and saw that Emily was walking towards her.
“Hey Jess, wow that sounded great.”
“Were you standing there the whole time?”
“Only to catch the last half of it, It sounds like it’s almost done.”
“Almost not quite, there’s still something missing.”
“Sounds pretty complete to me.”
“Is there something you wanted to talk about? You’re never here this early.”
“Yeah the teen choice awards is in two days, do you know what song you’re going to sing?”
“I’m not sure probably Beautiful since that’s my most popular song.”
“Okay, that sounds good, are you bringing Paul?”
“Of course he’s my body guard.”
“Are you sure that’s wise? I mean he just got out of jail.”
“Yeah for a murder he didn’t commit, Why does everyone think he did it?”
“He was in love with the girl Jessica.”
Jessica flinched she didn’t want to hear this, But she didn’t understand why. Why did it hurt so bad to think about a guy she barely knew with someone else? “Was in love with her, not anymore he’s moved on. Just like everyone else should as well.”
“Okay if you really believe that, You’re the boss so if you say he’s coming then I guess he is.”
“He is.”
“Okay great I’ll call Mike, Jessica?”
Jessica turned around to look at Emily. “What?”
“Just be careful I know it must be easy for you to get lost in that perfect body and deep blue eyes. But he’ll only hurt you in the end.”
“I wasn’t planning on getting involved with him Emily.”
“You say that now, but it’s just a matter of time.”
“I think you should go now.”
“Okay, I’ll leave you to your writing, See you at the awards.”
“Okay.”
Emily walked away and Jessica thought of a really great idea not only would Paul be attending the awards he was going to be her date. Let Emily and Co. try to say anything about him then.
