"Hey baby," I choked out a sob at the sound of his voice.

"Hi," Was all I could muster out before I burst into tears.

"None of that now, this is supposed to be happy." He never failed to make me laugh.

"How are you? How's Wyatt?" Perching down on the blue chaise besides me, I glanced up at smiled at Xander through my tears.

"He's good, I'm good. We just got back actually."

"What's happening?" He released a long sigh, causing me to clutch the phone a little tighter.

"Everything is just chaotic and crazy. I don't think I've gotten a good night's sleep since we arrived. I have be constantly alert all the time, I'm so terrified that the moment I shut my eyes, a rebel will burst in and kill me." His voice sounded tired, exhausted.

All I wanted to do was kiss my husband, whisper sweet nothings into his ear and tell him everything will be alright. Yet, I couldn't.

"I don't know what to tell you, because nothing I could say would help you. God, I feel so stupid right now."

"Don't do that to yourself, you're far from stupid. I heard about Gideon signing the deal, the supplies should arrive soon and with any luck we'll be well on our way to winning this war."

"I hope so...tell me if I can do anything else. Tell what more I can do."

"Nothing right now, I just need you to continue being the strong leader I know you can be." Silence filled the air, and a myriad of unspoken words lingered in the air. Xander kicked off from the wall and excused himself, almost immediately.

I held the phone a little tighter, bringing it closer to my ear. "I love you," I whispered, knowing it was the only thing left to say.

Hardin's breathing remained heavy on the other end of the line, and I felt my own becoming shakier. "I love you too baby. You're my moon, my stars, my world. Never forget."

He recited the line again, and I shut my eyes trying to drink in the words. When I opened my eyes, I was forced to wipe away my tears and stared out at the sunset. I smiled at the hues of red and pink that danced across the skyline and prayed to myself that my husband came home safe, and soon.

"Never forget I'm with you, no matter what I'm here. I'm waiting for you to come home to me."

"I'll carry you in my heart." His voice stilled, as though the words were on the tip of his tongue. "Baby, if I don't make it home to you, I need you to listen to Xander. I need you to follow his every instruction and trust no-one but him. Don't think about the Kingdom, don't think about your friends, or me I need you to think about yourself. I need you to survive."

"Baby don't say that, don't act like you're going to..."

"Please give it to Xander, I need to speak with him." I froze, and let out a shaky breath.
