"This ball will introduce Elliot, Max and Jose into society and the world of Royals. It will help you discover who is better suited to play the part as King consort and who would be your right hand when it comes to the world of politics. This could be the final decider."

I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I get all of that but what I want to know is if I can swear sweatpants?"

Xander huffed out a laugh and ran a hand over his face in exasperation. "No you can't."

Pouting, I dropped the ridiculously heavy skirt and stormed into my closet. I reached to the back, finding the white box and pulled it out.

"What about these?" Walking back into the room, I shoved my white trainers into his face. He stared at them with a grimace. "Seriously, they're just trainers! No-one will even see them under this monstrosity you call a dress."

I watched him have his moment of deliberation, but as soon as he sighed, I knew I had won. "Fine you can wear the trainers."

I beamed and jumped up and down in glee. Well as much as someone carrying a human inside of them can.

"I think you should kiss them." Xander suddenly blurted out, as I was sliding in my last ruby earring.

"What?" His eyes softened at the sound of my wary tone.

"I think you should kiss all of them. The advisors want the choice to be chosen quickly, within the next two weeks or even sooner. They don't care how it's made, only that you have a husband."

"A man in control you mean," I muttered mockingly. Sighing, he crossed the room and planted his hands on my shoulders. I stared at him through the mirror.

"I know this is hard. Truth is...I know exactly how you feel." Frowning, I quickly spun around, only to find his face void of any emotion. "I lost the love of my life, it broke me. She died in a car crash. One second and she was there, the next she was gone. I was in the car with her when it happened. I watched the light leave her eyes."

"Why have you never told me this?" My voice was but a mere whisper.

"Because you didn't deserve to know my cruelties of this world, you've already experienced so many of your own. However look at me. I'm still standing, still breathing and I'm with Flicker now. I love her, I do. I love her with everything I have."

"Do you love her as you loved the one you lost?" The tense pause did nothing to settle my panicked nerves.

"No. Because they're both different, I love them both in different ways. Flicker is the antithesis of my deceased lover. She's loud, and wild and makes me do things I never thought I would. My other love was quiet and comfortable. Both different, yet they make me feel needed and loved. They make me better. I wouldn't have known how I truly felt about Flicker until I worked up the courage to kiss her that night at the masked ball. That kiss solidified my future, our future. One kiss can change everything."
