The search for Clarissa has proven to be a loss. It's as though she's fallen off the face of the Earth.
She managed to ruin my life and she's not even here to face the punishment. Hardin's been stressed, and coming to bed late at night and then leaving at the crack of dawn.
He's working tirelessly day in and out but to be honest, I believe he's trying to distract himself from the truth. To hide from the fact that his mother was murdered by my own, his closest advisor and friend have been lying to him his whole life and his father had an affair...with my mother. Ew.
We just recently announced our findings to the council of advisors, and they were less than pleased. Apparently this was our fault, more specially mine. I brought Clarissa in, and in turn gave her access to everything.
I invited the leader of the rebels, a group who want to eradicate the royal bloodline, into the palace. I guess when I put it like that it does sound bad.
Tonight though, we were hosting a charity gala. I wanted to throw it in order to distract myself and to raise some much needed money for the orphans at the academy. However, the advisors turned it into another ploy to draw out Clarissa.
I turned the corner of the hallway and pushed the door open, my heart coming to a still once I saw them both. My head was throbbing from the mild hangover I got from last night to celebrate Rory's return from her honeymoon, and I was tried. Extremely tried, meaning I was also grumpy.
So when I walk in on my husband hugging my maid, I freak out.
"What the fuck?" I exclaimed, flashbacks of Clarissa warning me that they were both having affair, coming to the forefront of my mind.
"Arabella." Hardin quickly pulled away, and then flashed me a guilt ridden smile.
"What's going on?" I crossed my arms over my chest, ignoring the way Hardin's eye zeroed in on my breasts.
"Arabella nothing is..." I held up my hand and stared at Rowan. She would tell me the truth, she always did. It may take a while but she'll crack sooner or...
"Nothing." She murmured quietly. My hand dropped and my heart deflated, knowing I had been lied to by two of the people closet to me.
Turning on my heel, I solemnly walked out, only to be hauled back by Hardin. I shrugged my hand out of his grip and slapped him. Rowan gasped from behind us, and Hardin stared on at me in shock as he placed his hand on the nasty red imprint I left behind.
I shouldn't have hit him, it might not even be true. You're crazy, you're acting crazy, don't...
"Baby, what the..." I narrowed my eyes at him, his pet name for me spurring on a sort of anger I didn't know I possessed.
