XIII ~ A Twist Of Fate

Annabeth leaned against the door as her mother pounded on it, her fists shaking the hinges. "Open up this instant!" Athena screamed.

"Never!" Annabeth yelled, pushing all of her weight against the door and praying that the lock would hold.

"If you don't, then you're grounded for two years!"

"Have you forgotten that I live in Eria now?"

"I have news on Perseus' whereabouts!" Annabeth opened the door. Quickly, Athena went in, followed by Nico. She then locked the door and stood in front of it so Annabeth couldn't escape. "Perseus is dead." She announced.

"Shut up!" Annabeth shrieked, putting her fingers to her temples.

"And in replacement, Nico Di Angelo is to marry you." Nico bowed to Annabeth, kissing her hand. Annabeth punched him in the stomach.

"I don't want to get married again!" She sobbed, tears streaking down her cheeks as she turned her back on Athena and Nico.

"I am your mother. You will do as I say!" Athena demanded.

"I am no longer a child! You can't control me anymore!"

"Stop it!" Hazel squeaked from the bathroom door where she had been hanging up towels, unnoticed by Athena. "You're giving me a headache! Lady Athena, I suggest you leave before you detonate the bomb."

"Not until-" Annabeth marched up to Athena, and slapped her across the face. Hard.

The Queen of Athens huffed, then stormed out, Nico trailing behind her. When she was gone, Hazel relocked the door. Annabeth was still crying, and Hazel patted her back and soothed her.

"Shh, it's alright. You haven't lost him. It's fine.

"I-I'm just scared." Annabeth groaned, sitting down on her bed.

"I'll let you have some peace." Hazel told her, then slid out of the room quietly.

Annabeth pulled up her shirt and placed her hands on her slightly swollen stomach, the last part of Percy she had left.

When Percy woke up, he was alone. For a moment he panicked when he saw the unfamiliar roof over his head, then remembered where he was and relaxed. The girl had murmured to him while he was half-asleep that he was on Ogygia, an exotic island practically in the middle of nowhere. Her name was Calypso, and for a moment when he first saw her standing across the room at a bench, he forgot all about Annabeth.

"I see your awake." Calypso said, without turning around.

"Yeah." Percy replied, sitting up. He felt his ankle throb again and gasped with pain.

"Careful." Calypso warned, hurrying towards him, her almond eyes worried. "You broke your ankle, it will take a while to heal. Don't worry, my boyfriend built you a boat to go home in."

"B-boyfriend?" Percy asked.

"Yeah." Calypso blushed. "He came here a few years ago on a big ship all alone. Decided to live here. He's mapped out your route home. In a few days we'll send you off."

"Okay." Percy said, then laid back down in the cozy bed. Drowsiness took over him, and he drifted off again.

The next time he woke up, a guy was there talking to Calypso. His voice sounded oddly familiar, like Percy had heard it before. "He's from Olympia." The person said.

"Are you sure?" Calypso replied.

"That's the prince. Last I heard, his parents were thinking of sending him away to get married."

"Then how did he end up here?"

"Probably washed ashore. There was a war going on not too far from the island. He might've been fighting, then ended up here."

Percy opened his eyes and sat up. "Hello." He greeted, stretching his arms. The guy who spoke looked startled.

"You're awake?"

"Duh. What does it look like?" Percy asked.

"Sorry, I thought-you know what, never mind." The boy walked over and reached out his hand for Percy to shake. "Leo Valdez."

"Percy Jackson." Percy replied. "Do I know you?"

"No." Leo sighed, looking at the floor. "You wouldn't remember the lonely boy who ran away."
