2 weeks later...
She got off the bus and stood before the buildings which towered over her. No they weren't in a city, they were actually in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains and trees. Who puts a huge academic camp in the middle of nowhere? GMFT apparently.
Still Kate was grateful about the fresh outdoor air, not to mention that her mom wouldn't be manipulating her alarm clock. Heck, she might even get to get on good terms with Alain! Nervousness wasn't far behind though and if she wanted to stay at GMFT then she would have to pass the eligibility test.....something she doubted would happen. Her test-taking skills sucked.
"Hey what's your face...move it! People need to pass you know!" The smile slipped off her face and a frown replaced it.
Kate moved aside as Tanya stomped by her. Great I'm stuck with her for the summer.
The whole group stood there waiting and not sure on what to do next. Eloise suddenly appeared and stood in front of them. "Well I'm glad that everyone has made it today. We will all go to the lobby right and everyone will take the eligibility exam."Wait...we are supposed to take the exam now?!
Without a word Eloise turned on her heel and started walking to the main building, not even looking back to see if they were following her. After a boring seven hour bus trip and with the thought of the exam they all trudged behind her.The Lobby was a your typical boring room with neutral grey walls and a big map of the campus. A couple of posters were up with smiling teenagers who were apparently having fun reading an AP Calc textbook. Yeah right, as if real life was like that.
There was a receptionist desk, an old lady with gray shoulder length hair sitting behind it looked up and squinted her light brown eyes in their direction through her big round and magnified glasses.
"Amelie, please sign in the newcomers and tell the director that they are ready to commence their exam."
Amelie nodded and beckoned the students over to the desk. "Please sign your first, last name and school year." She whispered in her raspy voice.
As everyone signed the form, about a handful of adults walked in and stood behind Eloise."Alright everyone, each one of you will be assigned a adult guide who will lead you to your own separate room in order to take the test. Anabelle is assigned to Jerome, Josh to Sandra, Kate to Lisa....."
Walking down the long corridors Kate nervously followed Lisa, a serious woman in her thirties who didn't even crack a smile or say a single word the whole time.
"So, I bet this place is going to be fun. Have you been here long?" She asked for the sake of her sanity. The silence was starting to get on her nerves.
No response.
Kate sighed and she trudged behind Lisa. At the end of the hall she stopped and took out a key which she opened the door and signaled Kate to go in. Kate stood at the doorway, staring at the pitch blackness that awaited her.
She didn't even get a chance to say anything before she was shoved into the dark room and the door slammed shut behind her.
