Darkness.
Claws, slashing. Pain and blood flowing.
Screams.
Fear.....then Death
Kate's' eyes flew open only to close them against the harsh bright lights. Gingerly she opened them again and as her eyes grew accustomed to the light. She tried to move only to wince at the sharp pain that ran across her back. The first thing Kate noticed was the softness that enveloped her and after a moment she realized she was in a bed. Turning her head to the side she tried to see where she was. The room was small and plain, the walls an implacable white. As Kate further examined the room she also noticed other beds. She couldn't see anyone.
"H-Hello?" Her voice came out in a dry half-chocked whisper. It seemed as she hadn't used her voice in forever. No one responded. She was alone.
She tried to move again but the pain wouldn't allow it. Confused she tried to remember what had happened, she only vaguely got the faint memory of an attack. By a wild animal maybe?. No. That explanation didn't feel right, it was something else. Something evil.
The door opened and Eloise walked in. She stood besides Kates' bed and asked. "I take it you must feel better?"
Kate stared at her, she felt as it someone had taken a knife and raked it across her back. "What happened?" She managed to croak out.
Eloises' gaze analyzed her before responding. "You passed your test. Congratulations."
"The Tes-" All of the sudden everything came rushing back at her. The dark room, that thing attacking her, the bright light.
"I take this must be a shock to you-" Eloise started.
"What type of cruel joke is this? What was that thing?" Kate demanded.
Eloise glared, silencing Kate before going on. "Be quiet and listen. Since the beginning of time, there have always been evil presences trying to take over our world. They come from another dimension which is connected to ours. They are called by different names daevas, gui, rackshasas, djinn but most commonly known as Demons. In order to protect this world from these Demons, the first humans created a secret society known as Bellatorum de Lux, the warriors of Light. This society consisted of humans gifted with incredible powers and abilities, they all share the duty of defending the earth from these monsters that threaten our life as we know it."
Kate stared at her, pretty sure that Eloise has gone crazy. "But what does that have to do with me?"
"I'll clarify something Kate, There is no GMTF, we use it as a cover to help us recruit only the best for such an honor. We watched you all your life Kate, we do that with everyone and we only chose the ones who show signs of possessing inhuman abilities."
Trying to digest all this new and crazy information Kate asked. "So you guys stalk me since birth and have this delusion that I have inhuman abilities?"
Eloise eyes became hard and she stated icily. "It is no delusion, and you know it even though you may not want to admit it."
"But Demons aren't real." Kate said but her voice wavered.
Eloise leaned in close, her ice blue eyes in level with Kat's own grey eyes. "Demons exists and you know it. You've been attacked by one. It is our duty...Your duty to protect this world from these monstrosities."
Standing up, she straightened her skirt and skewered Kate with her icy gaze. "Want it or not, you're one of us."
And with that she left the room, leaving Kate alone with her world shattering around her.
