Kate lunged to her left, barely dodging the piece of wood that was thrown in her direction. The ground beneath them trembled as everyone rushed to safety.

Kate looked up and between the crowd only catching glimpses of tents falling and wood splintering.

"Asraen!"

He was nowhere in sight and Kate craned her neck in order to catch a glimpse of him through the panicking crowd. She struggled to stand her place as multiple screaming bodies slammed into her, trying to get away from the menace that had attacked. An elbow struck her shoulder and she fell back, her body crashing on top of Yyre's stand. Her vision was obstructed as bright cloths of reds and yellows fell on her and wrapped around her shoulders and neck.

"Stop fooling around, we need to flee!" Someone screeched as gangly fingers clasped at the cloths and tried to tug it off from her head.

"Yyre it's not safe for you." Hastily they both pulled at the cloths. "Wait...have you seen Asraen?" The movement suddenly stopped and Kate also paused, her lips twisted with worry. "Yyre?"

A small squeak was the only response she received and Kate slowly pulled off the last cloth from her head. Much to Kate's horror a mass of torn flesh and broken antlers flew through the air and landed only a couple of feet from her with a wet Splat!  It was the beautiful nymph creature Kate had first seen in the marketplace.

Her stomach twisted unpleasantly and she tore her eyes away from the half chewed head to look at the creature hunched on its hind legs across from her.

The rotting stench of carnage was undeniable.

It's pale twisted body, no more than a cage of bone, heaved with deep rattling breaths. It was still, staring at her with those wide crazed dark pits for eyes.

"Err...Good demon?"

It hurled itself at her and she threw out her hand, pulling up a shield. Despite its small size, the impact of its body hitting against her shield was jarring. Before it could attack again Kate hit him with a ball of black flames, sending it flying into the other stand. Her relief was short lived as two more appeared from down the path. Kate groaned. "Why me?"

Her hands bursts in black flames and she crouched in a defensive stance, ready for them. "What are you?" Yyre gasped.

Dammit. She had forgotten about her. Kate turned to find Yyre cowering behind the stand, her wide yellow eyes peering up at her from under layers of cloth. "Yyre I need you to listen to me. I'm going to distract them and you're going to run to safety. Find Asraen."

Without waiting for a response Kate turned back to the creatures that were pacing back a forth, never once taking their hungry gaze off her. "Alright boys. Bring it!"

Swoosh! Kate was a blur as she fought them off. Her attacks were swift but they were faster, easily dodging her.

"Girl!"

She spun around and silently cursed as she found Yyre pressed up against the wall, another creature only a couple of away. That split-second distraction was enough time for the creatures.

One swipe at her head and it long gnarled claws caught on her veil, ripping it off as she dodged its attack. She didn't have time to react as another slammed into her from the side, sending her flying. As her head hit the ground her vision painfully exploded in stars.

Before any of them could react a large black mass thundered through, plowing into the creatures. A large calloused hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her to her feet. Still disoriented Kate looked up at the hulking creature and gaped in astonishment as she recognize him as the creature she had bumped into earlier.  "Y-you!"
