Opening her eyes Kate was only met with darkness and for a moment she wondered if she had gone blind. Her panic slowly faded away as her vision started to adjust, revealing the faint outlines of her confinement.

The smell of rot and mold stuck to her nose, twisting her stomach. Her face was pressed against wet stone, tendrils of hair stuck to her neck and cheek. Shifting her form caused pain to run down her arm, and the memories of what had transpired flooded back.

"Stop moving!"

She paused, eyes growing wide. Staying still she strained to hear out the other sounds in the room.

For a couple of moments, she was in utter silence and just as she began to think that she had imagined it all, a scuffle was heard from her right. She jumped up only to stumbled back down, knees slamming against concrete. The resulting pained shriek that was ripped from her lips almost inhuman as it bounced within her confinement.

"Humans are so stupid!" A small reed-like voice exclaimed in response. More mutterings were heard, too low for her to fully understand. She only caught broken phrases and words.

"Look at-"

"I haven't had meat in a while. I claim dibs on one of her legs."

"I hear eating their heart"..."liver is pretty good too."

"No fair! I've been here the longest I should at least get the good section of the thigh."

"No one is eating me!" She snapped at the voices, her own voice cracking at the end.

"Who says?" Someone retorted.

"I do! Now stop your bickering and tell me where I am. I need to get out of here. I need to find Asraen and warn Nuriye!" She didn't have time for this.

"Nuriye?" Someone muttered.

"Is she talking about the Nuriye?"

Before she could respond a voice hissed sharply. "Shut up everyone! It's her!"  The new explosion of whispers and murmurs were too hard to follow. Giving up Kate merely sighed and laid back down, pressing her cheek to the cool ground.

The next time she woke up her pain had decreased to a dull ache. Still she refused to move from her own position. "You sleep a lot" A voice said.

She flinched but remained on the floor. "I see that you haven't eaten me yet. At this rate I'll rot beyond the point of being edible."

"Tsk, why would we do that? You're the necromancer right?"

A necromancer, she mentally scoffed, what good did that do me? "What difference does it make if I am?" She finally asked.

"It changes everything."  It responded.

"Apparently not, I'm stuck here aren't I?" After a moment, her eyes widened and she quickly lifted her head, wincing as her headache came back. "Where's Asraen?"

"Who's that?"

It was too dark for her to clearly see the room. "There was someone else with me. A shadow walker. Where is he?"

Someone shuffled closer to her. "We don't know. They brought you here alone."

Trying to be careful of her broken arm, she rolled to her side peering at the shadowy form that stood a couple feet from her. "How long have you been here?"

The small figure shrugged. "Weeks, months, years. It's impossible to keep track of time down here. That one over there is the more recent addition, coming in a month or so ago."
