Everyday....

Sitting down with her back comfortably against the wall, Kate couldn't help but watch in rapt fascination as Vidur gobbled down the food in earnest.

He attacked the meat first. Ripping it in two with his gnarled claws he stuffed one piece in his slobbering mouth. He momentarily paused, setting the other piece to the side. For later, he had explained before lunging for the rest of the food. Kate waited patiently and tried not to rudely stare by observing the room. Dark and bleak, it was only the size of a small walk in closet. It stank of rotting flesh and she could see the black mold which was comfortably nestled in one of the top corners. Dark tendrils of it threatening to spread to the other wall. Even in the dim lighting she could make out a small dark cot in one of the far corners.

Not asss luxuriouss as your own living accommodations I believe, he said without looking up, But it'ss certainly much better than the lassst one. Don't have to crawl around in my own filth.

Her cheeks heated with embarrassment at being caught snooping. "Ah I didn't mean-"

Do not worry child, such thingss have little importance to me.

Although he had stopped referring her as a Black Rose, he referred her as child. Something she assumed had to do with his age.

I used to be in the lower floorsss when I was firsst brought here. Kept trying to rip their heads off I did. Hah-I somewhat succeded on a couple of occasionss. He mused before giving a sharp cackle, not noticing or not caring for Kate's aghast expression. I eventuallt stopped fighting over the yearss, he continued, Not that I had much choice. I began to waste away...even if I didn't notice before. My old bones can only take sso much.......Tell me child, what compelsss you to stay?

Kate blinked in surprised. "I don't know what you mean."

Do you sstay because you want to or because you have no choice? He pressed.

"I do have a choice."

Oh really? If you wanted to, you could leave all of thiss behind in a blink of an eye with no second thoughts or consequencesss?

Her vocal cords were frozen, not knowing how to respond to Divurs' sudden question.

After a moment Vidur leaned in, as if letting her in on a secret. There's always consequencess for everything....wether they be good or bad. Alwayss rememeber that.

He turned back to his food as if nothing happened, leaving Kate to contemplate in silence.

"Have you ever wanted to go back and change how things were going to be?" She blurted.

Pausing, he looked up at her to pierce Kate with those black holes for eyes. Yet.....they were different. Something in them caused Kate to inhale sharply as she was thrown into an ocean of soul wrenching darkness.

Yess.....Everyday.... He chocked out.
