They both entered a windowless room with dim lighting. Shelves filled with books were propped against the wall. It reminded Kate of a cozy small library were she could read all day long with a cup of hot chocolate in hand.

"This is where you will learn everything there is to know about your abilities, but most importantly I will help you learn how to control them before you can freely train with others."

Kate nodded. "And where do we start?"

Eloise walked over to one of the bookshelves, pulling out a large leather bound book. Settling on the table she beckoned to Kate.

Curiously, Kate stared at the strange markings that had been crudely etched into the old leather worn cover. "What is it?"

"This Kate, is a very rare book. Almost considered like a relic. It holds the complete history on the Bellators du Lux and on the three Necromancers themselves." She said as she gently traced the markings on the cover. "This book is very old, to the point where a spell is the only thing that's preventing it from turning to dust. But no one really knows its true age. It is rumored that it was written by an Elven scholar who was still alive during the Great War."

"An elf?" She asked.  An image of a tall, ethereal creature with pointed ears and translucent skin popped into her mind.

Eloise shrugged. "According to the rumors but I doubt it would be that old. Either way no one has ever been in contact with a True Elf in over a century, most of the great portals have been sealed or destroyed."

"What portals?"

"Ah, you are still new here so you don't know. Did someone tell you about the Demon World being a dimension which is connected to ours?" She asked.

Kate nodded and Eloise continued.  "Well you see there were many portals in this world which acted as a gateway from their world to ours.  Throughout time most of them have been sealed or destroyed except for a couple. This location is actually based on one of the few portals still standing. Ours is nickname the Obsidian and it's a two hour walk away. But don't worry, it's under heavy surveillance twenty-four seven and our patrol teams are the best."

"Can I go and check it out sometime?" Kate asked.

Eloise shook her head. "Only Gatekeeper status patrol teams may be at the portal. Even with our amazing security, it's too dangerous and it's prohibited to pass through the portal unless you're in a mission that requires you to. We have lost many because of the occasional demon attacks since they do manage to slink into our world. "

"We get demon attacks? Here?"

"Occasionally. The demons we capture are then used in the training sessions and exams for the students."

"Oh," Kate shuddered at the memory of that Thing and made a mental note to make sure to have all doors and  windows locked.....that is until she got a new door.

Eloise regarded her with a level gaze. "Alright now, before we commence, I would like to have you go through a small test. To see how much control you really have over your abilities."

"Alright, what do I do?"

Walking over to a dark wood cabinet that was in the far corner of the room, Eloise retrieved a small book and a jar filled with some sort of white powder. "Please, stand in the middle of the room."

Taking a handful of the white powder, Eloise sprinkled it in a circle around Kate.

"What is that?" She asked.

"This is grounded white quartz, a special element which draws dark magic." Settling the jar on the table, she started to flip over the pages looking for what she needed. "Once the quartz starts to draw out the dark magic it will cause it to lash out and you will have to control it. Simple."
