Chapter 26

"How many stitches?", asks Sana with a worried look.
"Staples. I will staple it.", says the Doctor.
Sidharth sits silently on the chair as the Doctor checks his injury. Irritation is evident on his face as he had clearly said no to the doctor. But Kabir had brought him and Sana had forced him to sit quietly with her kasam. Strangely he couldn't say no to her kasam and hence he just sits silently, looking at his hands. The Doctor takes out a surgical stapler and Sana sits down beside Sidharth, trying not to look at it. As the Doctor starts stapling the wound, Sana grabs Sidharth's wrist tightly and closes her eyes shut. Sidharth gazes at her, a soft smile appears on his face.

"Mr.Raichand, it is done. Please rest. I will send the medicines, have them on time.", says the doctor.
Sidharth whispers into Sana's ear, "You can open your eyes now, it's over."
Kabir smiles and says,"Don't worry Doctor, we have Bahurani with us. She will take very good care of him like the last time."
Doctor nods his head and takes the leave with Kabir.

Sana keeps looking at him and then at his head. "What? Why are you staring at me like this?"
"You didn't feel anything. I was so scared just looking at that .. hmm.. hmm.. kya tha woh?"
"Surgical stapler. No. But I will lose the blood circulation to my hand if you don't leave my wrist now."
Sana, unable to understand, asks,"Hun?"
Sidharth points at his wrist and Sana looks below and bites her tongue before leaving his wrist.

Sidharth shakes his head as he goes and sits on the bed. He picks up his phone and starts checking some messages.
Sana goes after him, sits beside him and asks,"You really didn't feel anything? I mean, kuch dard nahi hua, abhi bhi nahi ho raha hai? How? I mean, I cannot tolerate the pain of even a tiny scratch. And you didn't even wince a bit."
Sidharth without removing his eyes from the phone says, "Dard hota hai, bas sehne ki aadat ho gayi hai."

Sana asks,"Aadat?"
Sidharth without thinking says,"When you are whipped for tiny mistakes and you can't shed even a drop of tear, fearing a few more lashes, then you learn to suppress the pain. I learned it long back when I was a kid. Now I don't feel.."
He stops suddenly realizing what he was speaking.
Sana touches his arm,"Your father used to beat you when you were young. Isn't it?"
Sidharth does not reply as she wraps her arms around him,"I can understand what you must have gone through."

I don't know if you can understand or not. I don't expect you to understand. I am not upset or anything. I am in fact thankful to him. Every whip, every beating has made me stronger. I have learnt to withstand all physical pain thanks to him. But I still can't get over mental pain. Mumma, you tried to make me strong in that department. But you failed. I still feel my heart suffering. I still do.

He removes her arms and stands up.
"Where are you going? Didn't you hear what the doctor said? Chalo, get into the bed. Martha will get your breakfast here and then you will sleep."
"Sleep now? Right.. right..sure in your dreams.", he says as he is about to go but Sana grabs her arm, "I don't care. You must rest. At Least today. Get into the bed."

Sidharth stares at her and removes her grip over his arm.
Sana comes closer and says," Mr. Sidharth Raichand ji, you are not going anywhere today."
"And who is going to stop me? You?"
Sana grabs her collar, "Yes. I am. Get inside the bed now."
Sidharth holds her arms, "You know I don't like all these. Leave my shirt."
"I don't care. Jate ho ke nahi bed pe?"
Sidharth yanks her closer, "Nahi toh kya?"

They both stare into each other's eyes waiting for her to speak.
Sana smiles mischievous and bites her lower lips. She slowly leaves his collar and starts tickling, "Nahi toh yeh karungi.."
"Hey! Stop! No..stop I said.. Shehnaaz. Bas karo...Stop..", Sidharth says, trying to stop her.
Sana starts giggling, "Mr. Sidharth Raichand, jo kisi se nahi darta, has one weakness, gudgudi.."
