Defending my Championship

"Huh? I have to defend my title?" I groaned, retrieving a pokéball with an Ekans in it.

The Professor, who somehow found me in the wild, nodded. "It is your job to offer a challenge to young hopefuls."

"I'm trying to complete the Pokédex! Can't Green do it?" I whined.

He shook his head vigorously. "He's not the Champion anymore, you are."

I sighed and gathered my new Pokémon. "Fine... who is it?"

The Professor smiled. "You'll see."

I kept fidgeting in the seat of the Champion. This would be my first title defense, so my heart was pounding out of my chest. I heard the door open and I quickly tried looking elegant and fierce, but I probably ended up looking like an idiot.

I gasped at who I saw. He waved with his idiotic smile plastered on his face. "Hey, Alyssa!"

"Green?! You came back?" I asked, feeling my face heat up as I stared at him.

"Of course! I gotta keep my rival strong so I can be sharp!" Green grinned.

"Well..." I giggled and cleared my throat. "'While working on my Pokédex, I looked all over for Pokémon. Not only that, I assembled a team that could beat any Pokémon type. And now... I'm the Pokémon League Champion!"

"H-hey! That's my line!" Green blushed furiously. "Don't steal it!"

I laughed. "Do you know what that means? I'm the most powerful trainer in the world!"

Green yelped once again and sent out his first Pokémon: Pidgeot. I already sent out Belphie's pokéball, and he quickly used Thunderbolt. Unlike last time, Belphie managed to fill the entire area with thunderbolts, making it nearly impossible to dodge the attack.

Luckily for us, Pidgeot's wing was struck, causing it to crash down on the ground. Its right wing wasn't moving, I was thinking maybe it was paralyzed, but Green suddenly called it back.

"Yes... one down..." I muttered to myself, calling Belphie back.

Green had sent out Rhydon, while I had sent out Nessie.

"Take Down!" Green yelled.

Rhydon dashed at Nessie, running faster than I would think for a huge rock type, and slammed into her. Nessie, however, hardly moved from the impact of the blow. I was a little shocked, but Nessie did have great endurance.

"Surf!"

Nessie summoned a huge wave of clear-blue water, which drowned Rhydon underneath the water. Nessie came over and carried me above the surface, but Green and Rhydon had yet to rise. I could barely see Green, but all I know is that he was struggling with something.

"Nessie..." I mumbled.

She quickly nodded and dove into the water, I held my hand out to Green, but he shook his head. He fumbled with the pokéball but called Rhydon back before it drowned.

Nessie called the water away, and Green and I were both soaked. My clothes were hugging my body tightly, and I felt cold and slightly weird. Green wrung his shirt out, and I was feeling slightly nervous around him.

I had sent out Kaen, and his bright orange fur Green was gritting his teeth while throwing out his next pokéball, which was his Exeggutor. The walking palm tree brought up a huge screen that surrounded it.
