Serendipity

Something I found in you
I tried to keep it but mother universe said no
The golden sky turned a darker hue
As I sit here, watch you go

There was something about you
That glowed so bright
And I wanted to keep you
Through day and through night

We were just kids
But I think I was in love
I'd have been fine with friends
But you gave 'mother' a shove

Serendipity was something I found in you
I didn't have to look
But now that you're gone, and my eyes are less blue
I wonder if I've overlooked
Everything you shook

There was something in the way you smiled at me
I can't forget it, it felt like ecstasy
We weren't as simple as I wanted us to be
And now you're all over my memory

I look at my life and see you made a mark
You felt like mine
One little remark and we were close
But you slipped through my fingers like sand
And I'm struggling to say I'm fine

Because you're there everywhere I go
At the park, I see your covered footprints in the
Freshly-fallen snow
And the cafe I remember the first and last
Time we went
We both got drinks but I was the one that spent

And at home I see your empty room
It looks lonely
Why don't you just come back and make it feel okay?
I see a lot of your things
They look lonely
Why don't you just come back
Everything's lonely
Why don't you just come back?!

I remember when you talked about other friends
I was jealous but I don't care if you came back for them
I just need to see you once and make amends
And I'm tired of living like I'm stuck in rem
So wake me up when you're home again
