"We're getting a divorce, I-I'm sure it's hard on him," Louis admits crossing his legs with a glaring glance at Harry that sighs, "Not everyone needs to feel sorry for you dear," He mutters adjusting his jacket, Louis scoffs, "Not ploying for sympathy, just letting her understand why our son might want to kill himself."
Harry groans rolling his eyes, "He passed out, it wasn't another suicide attempt." Louis returns his attention to the doctor that sits behind her desk watching the men until their interaction is completed, "Right well," She mumbles pulling Liam's file in front of her, "We're keeping him for the night, but since it wasn't an active attempt at suicide - we can let him go in the morning to Mr.Louis' care. However I do recommend family counseling," Adding the last part she feels her frown deepen with Louis' wave of a hand as if they were discussing the weather, "He sees one, she's a very lovely woman-"
"you hate her," Harry remarks, Louis, sending him daggers, "What happened to keep our business private?"
The doctor lifts her hands halting the altercation from continuing, "This isn't productive, or beneficial for Liam. He needs counseling, but so does the family. It's not just a Liam problem, this is a family problem."
Louis lifts an eyebrow, "B-but we're not going to be a family-" It was as if he was admitting it aloud for the first time. The words thumbed down Louis' spine chilling the man. He feels the lump in his throat burning, his stomach teasing the idea of betraying him, his face visibly pales, tears pricking his eyes.
Harry tightens his jaw at the words, he awkwardly shifts in the chair at the confession. His emerald orbs flicker from the doctor to the floor, he didn't realize the truth to the statement before Louis spoke it into the room uncaringly.
Raising his head he chews his bottom lip in thought, glancing at Louis he sighs grabbing Louis' hand without thought, the man scoffs trying to remove the man's touch, Harry only securing the grip with a smile towards the woman, "T-thank you for the advice."
Louis sniffles meeting his soon-to-be ex-husband's eyes, his silence speaks volumes around the hurt Harry had caused him by sending those papers without a word of remorse.
"Oh my gosh!"
Niall bursts into the room taking the nearest seat next to the bed, Zayn furrows his eyebrows looking at Liam, "H-how did you-"
"Louis called me," Niall remarks passing the man off with an eye roll, he grabs Liam's hands in his, "How do you feel?"
Liam sighs adjusting in the bed, he's sitting for the first time in his stay, "Fine," he lies, he removes his hand from Niall's grip stretching one back to Zayn's hold, "C-can you give us a minute?" Liam asks softly, his boyfriend frowns nodding, "Sure, I'll be right outside." With one last passing glare to Niall that barged in with no care, Zayn pushes the door open letting it close behind him.
"T-this isn't like you-"
"Don't say that as if you know me," Liam mutters rolling his eyes, he gestures towards his phone, "Can-can you hand me that?"
Niall nods retrieving the phone from the table bringing it to him, "W-where's your parents?"
"I don't know," Liam mumbles chewing his bottom lip seeing his text messages empty. He knew his brothers and him didn't have the best relationship, but surely they would've texted him in the least to ensure he was okay.
"Have you told Connor?"
"No, do you want me to?" Niall questions bringing his own phone to view, "No," Locking the phone screen, Liam sighs leaning his head back with a fond smile towards the ceiling.
Niall grabs Liam's hands once more, "I was worried,"
"We-we had just got to being friends again, and you tried-"
"I didn't try to kill myself," Liam growls meeting the icy eyes, "Tell me they know that," Niall's face etches his concern, "I-I think they're worried, they have the right to be-"
"Tell Zayn to come back, you can go-"
"Liam I'm your best friend!-"
"No!" Liam protests, "No! You don't get to play that card, my best friend wouldn't have fucked my brother! We're not even friends Niall, we're more than strangers and that's it." Niall's face crumples as tears well in his eyes at the words violently flung his way, "W-why did you call me?"
Liam chews the inside of his cheek glancing at his hands that rested on the thin white blanket, "I-I don't know,"
Niall nods storming from the room, he sees Zayn leaning against the wall speaking to some nurse, "He asked for you," Admitting defeat, Niall wants the floor to cave beneath him, Zayn nods stepping away from the nurse when Niall grabs his arm, "Zayn,"
"Yea?"
Staring into the honey hazel eyes, Niall plasters a smile, "D-don't hurt him, p-please take care of him."
"I've never cheated on you,"
"You know I have," Louis mumbles, the two parents are sitting outside the hospital after their meeting with the doctor, emotions reeling.
"W-what are we going to do?" Louis asks softly, he feels helpless in the situation, he could face his other children when it came to their judgment, but knowing Liam hated him was enough to crush Louis completely.
Harry sighs leaning his elbows on his knees with a shrug, "I don't know, but we'll get through it-"
"We, won't."
Louis rises from the bench wiping his eyes, "Y-you made sure of that decision," Harry meets his oceanic eyes with a guilty frown, "I-I,"
"If you don't love me, it's the right choice to make." Louis assures stepping away from the intensity of the moment, "I'll always love you, but we aren't good." Louis nods chewing the inside of his cheek, he glances to the hospital where his youngest son laid, where he had all his children, and where he lost his eldest.
"We aren't good enough."
>Is it too early for me to promise this ends on a happy note? Probably.
But I swear it does!
