Growth.

Liam had grown since the night he tried ending his life.

Running a hand through his hair once more the corner of his lips lifts in a smile once more as he stares into the mirror chewing his bottom lip in thought.

His chocolate eyes travel to the hoodie he's wrapped in, London not ceasing on its bitterly cold weather even as the months drag closer to spring.

It smelt like Zayn, a scent Liam had grown obsessed with over the months the two had finally made things official. Since the night of the party life had truly turned for Liam. He didn't feel like it made Him out to be the butt of all its jokes.

"Do you need a ride to school?" Liam turns from the mirror his eyes meeting Harry's, he's standing with his arms crossed peering into his son's room with a mindless smile. "No," his mood falls as the room darkens by the not-so-subtle attempt at conversation.

"Z-zayn's taking me," Liam admits the obvious, his parents had gotten word that the driver that took all their boys to school had been given the order to not drive Liam.

Harry nods raising an eyebrow, "Uh," stepping further into the room without an invite, "Be home early today, papa and I have news."

Liam backs away from the mirror grabbing his backpack, "I have to study for a test and help Zayn on his art project-"

"Liam," Harry calls lowly, he hardens his look pressing the unsaid matter, "Be home right after school."

Scoffing, Liam rolls his eyes, "I just said-" Harry grabs Liam's hoodie pulling him closer, "Hey, don't forget that I'm your father. Let Zayn know I'll be taking you today," Releasing the boy from his grip he sighs, "And picking you up." Liam glares daggers at the man in reply, "I hate you,"

Harry's expression brightens with a small smile, "That's okay."

Chewing his bottom lip Liam brings his phone to view gasping when a hand comes between his face and the screen, "Do we even exist to you now?" Louis questions hardening his look when Liam rolls his eyes, "Unfortunately."

"Liam," Harry scolds from his spot at the island in the kitchen, Rose stands on the other side preparing breakfast, "What's the news, guys? I really want to help Zayn this afternoon-"

"Who's Zayn?" Louis asks he's moved from in front of Liam to the fridge grabbing the creamer for his coffee, "I'm not obligated to update you on people in my life-"

"Liam I'm your father-"

"You paid my best friend to-"

"Are we still on that?! That was months ago!" Louis remarks waving his hand in the air flippantly, he rolls his eyes shutting the fridge, Harry clearing his throat gaining both his husband and sons attention, "Lee I think it's time to forgive and forget bud-"

"So you're condoning his behavior?" Liam retorts glaring at Louis that stands with his jaw cracked at the remark, "C-condone?! Liam, you wouldn't talk to us, one day when you're a father you'll-"

"Don't call yourself a father, please. When have you ever stepped in except when it was convenient for you?"

"Liam James!" Harry barks silencing the bickering words flung at Louis that stands with tears pooling in his eyes, "L-let him go," Louis whispers, he sniffles glancing to Harry, "I-I uh, dad got a-a uh movie role. S-so it'll just be me and you for a while." Liam scoffs, "Great, I'm left with a bully."

Harry's frown deepens, grabbing the car keys he gestures towards the door, "Let's go, now." Adding the last part his tone lowers in a scolding manner.

"Hate him until you die, Liam. If that's what you want. But don't punish him for the past." Harry had been silent most of the ride staring ahead, it's sudden that he speaks to Liam, the boy sighing as he rolls his eyes, "All I have is the past-"

"and there he is trying to change that."

"Why do you defend him? You're not the best either-"

"I'm not saying I am, Liam. I know we've both been awful, there is no denying that. But you have a choice here. We will always love you, but you don't have to love us. You get to choose."

Staring at his lap dejectedly, Liam inhales softly, "H-how long will you be gone?"

"Seven months," Harry replies pulling into Liam's school, "Tell him about Zayn, I know he'd love to hear about someone that makes you happy." Mustering a small smile in response, Liam frowns never realizing how easy it was to talk to his dad. He hadn't noticed how much Harry had picked up on over the last few months, Liam not hiding his relationship with Zayn from the parent he'd grown somewhat close to.

Chewing on his bottom lip, Liam sniffles meeting his father's emerald orbs, "D-do you ever miss them?" Knowing his brothers rarely spoke of good times with either parent, Liam found it hard to believe they were missed.

"Sometimes, but they're off doing their own things."

"D-does Papa miss them?"

"More than you'll ever know." Liam opens the passenger door grabbing his bag, "I wish he would tell me. It-it would help us have something in common."

Zayn offers Liam a kiss snaking his arm around the boy's waist, "How was the drive?" He muses, Liam laughs laying his head on Zayn's shoulder, "Dad's leaving for a movie, I'll be left alone with him.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah." Peering into Zayn's honey eyes he smiles softly, "I want you to meet him,"

"Your Papa?"

"Yeah, I think it would be nice him seeing someone that makes me happy."

"I'm glad I make you happy," Zayn muses pressing his lips to Liam's with a hum, "I love you,"

"I love you too,"

>All the love, Emma<
