"Have you just ever felt like you didn't belong?" Liam asks his books clutched to his chest, he's walking in tow with Zayn as the two had chosen to skip the rest of the day. A typical move for Zayn, a first for Liam.
"you're asking me the kid with tattoos if I feel like I don't belong?" Zayn mocks a laugh ending the question, Liam smiles himself shaking his head, "Well, why did you get a tattoo?"
"My first one was really stupid, honestly. Then I realized the difference between what's in your life forever, and what's temporary." Liam nods staring further into the distance, "I understand that."
"What's forever in your life?" Zayn questions furrowing his eyebrows in curiosity, "Cancer." Liam replies stopping their walk to meet the eyes of one another.
"Y-you have cancer?"
"I know," Liam states plainly used to the shocked, turned to sympathy, reactions. "H-how long have you known?"
"Since I was a kid," Liam inquires as the two begin walking again, "Is that why you feel like you don't belong?" Zayn's question strikes Liam oddly, he halts again on the stone path the two were trailing on; "I don't know." His honest answer has Zayn nodding reaching down to collect Liam's free hand in his own.
"It was for my dad, my first one." He admits sighing, "He left my mum and me, and for some reason, I wanted to remember him."
"D-did he die?" Liam asks his eyes flickering to his hand captured by the tan one, "No, just found someone better to raise and love."
"I'm sorry Zayn," Liam mumbles moving in first as he wraps his arms around Zayn's waist, his head fitting perfectly on Zayn's chest, "I'm sorry you have cancer."
"I'm not, it's the only time my parents pay attention to me." And with that statement, Zayn held Liam a bit tighter realizing how sad this boy he liked really was.
