Chapter 28: The one feeding on death

Everyone looked at Alex as he placed his hand on the second pup and then the third pup, within ten minutes all the three pups died. Alex stood up from where he was crouching beside the now lifeless pups on the floor. His body wasn't as hunched as it was before, Kevin was so shocked when Alex looked at him. Alex's eyes were bright and his complexion was much better than before. Spencer gasped when Alex turned to face them, he almost couldn't breathe when he saw those shining blue eyes with that dangerous amber streak in them. He took a step back in fright and almost tripped on the staircase behind him. But nobody gave him any mind as everyone was in the same condition. In older days supernatural creatures seldom came in contact with humans but there was a famous tale about an abnormal boy raised by a farmer and his wife. The tale told the story of a little boy who was found under a bridge, he was a beautiful baby so a poor farmer and his wife took him home. He was a normal kid until the day he unintentionally killed a cat. He just wanted to play with the cat but the cat died in his hands. The farmer and his wife coaxed the crying kid and buried the cat. They thought the cat's abrupt death was because of some underlying disease. But after that day, incidents like that became common, kids playing with the boy would abruptly faint, the farmer and his wife became concerned and banned him from playing with others. The boy never left the house after that for years, one day the farmer and his wife disappeared, the neighbours became concerned and went to their house. The house was open, the farmer and his wife were lying lifeless on the floor and the boy was nowhere to be seen. The humans called the boy different names but in the supernatural world, he was called a demon. Demons are creatures of the underworld and they seldom had any contact with the creatures outside the underworld. A very famous power of the demons was absorbing the living essence of their enemies. It was a contact ability and was hard to master, but the demons who mastered it were feared by everyone. For years everyone heard about demons and their abilities, some even went to search for the way to the underworld, but to no avail. And today for the first time they saw what they only heard about, and the person doing so was not even a demon.

"Wh-who are you?" Alpha Carter stuttered, she couldn't believe what she just saw.

"Alex, I am the alpha of the shadow blood pack," Alex moved to the next cell, bodies after bodies were falling on the ground. The odour of death hung heavy on Alex's body, it was like rotting flesh, his eyes were getting more and more bright with every death, he looked powerful, dangerous and a little insane. All the rogue pups died within thirty minutes, Alex was breathing heavily, there was a golden glow at the end of his fingertips. Kevin who was by his side from the start was starting to feel nervous now, he didn't know what was happening with Alex, he only knew this wasn't his Alex. Alex walked out of the cell after the last pup died, everyone held their breath as Alex walked towards them. They even took a step backwards consciously, their instincts were telling them to run, they knew they wouldn't be able to take Alex down if he attacked them but they still had a little faith in Alex.

"Kev?" Alex looked at Kevin with bright eyes but those eyes didn't hold the usual warmth and love, those eyes were creepy, they had an insane and dangerous glint in them. Even the little smile on Alex's face was murderous, he looked like death personified. All the small cuts and bruises on his face were healed, his face was even glowing, it's was the glow of death, of murder, of power. Alex was looking at Kevin like a predator looking at its prey, there was a hunger in his eyes like he was starved for year's and finally was going to feast on him. Kevin took a step back unconsciously by instinct but that little moment didn't go unnoticed by Alex. The smile was wiped from Alex's face in a second and his face morphed into a look of contempt.

"Take me to the other pups," Alex spat the words through gritted teeth but nobody moved. This ticked Alex's temper off and he ran upstairs by himself pushing everyone out of his way. It didn't take long for everyone to break out from their stupor and they ran behind Alex to the hospital wing. When they reached the hospital wings, Alex was nowhere in sight but it looked like a storm went through the hospital wing. Broken chairs and benches, papers scattered on the ground.  They followed the path of destruction only to find the door of the intensive care unit broken and Alex was inside the room crouching beside a hospital bed. The doctors in the room were huddled together in the corner too afraid to breathe. Kevin's heart sank seeing the familiar situation, he ran and jerked Alex's body away from the pup. Alex looked at Kevin with wide eyes caught off guards.
