As Alex was trying to win favours with the sister packs, Kevin was on a different mission. Unlike Alex, Kevin wasn't good with words, he didn't know how to console or show many emotions. When Alex was near him things happened naturally, his cold heart melted leaving him vulnerable. But otherwise, his heart was frozen to the core. He could see alpha Graham with his son, the ten years old was held close by alpha Graham. After the unfortunate event that took his elder son's life, he kept his other son always in front of his eyes. Kevin could actually sympathise with the alpha, he felt the same way when Alex wasn't within his eyesight. He still remembers the dread that washed over him the day the school was attacked. His heart was beating in his ears that day, the images from eleven years ago flashing in front of his eyes.
Kevin knew Alex thought that maybe he would use the familiar loss on both their parts as a way of bonding. But Kevin couldn't bring himself to do so. He couldn't bring himself to reopen old wounds of a father who lost his son. After losing his family at the tender age of eleven the thought of anyone losing their family was heartbreaking for Kevin. But Kevin needed to do that, he needed to get in the good grace of the alpha to save his new family. The thought of losing Alex made his throat close. As Kevin was busy trying to come up with ideas to approach the alpha, the opportunity build itself. The ten years old successfully got his hand away from his father's hold and ran away from him. As he was looking back at his father following him, he bumped into Kevin causing the drink in his hand to fell on him. Kevin because of his quick reflex caught the child before he hit the floor.
"You okay kid?" Kevin asked the kid expressionlessly. He didn't know how scary he appeared to the ten years old, the kid nodded dumbly too afraid of the expressionless Kevin.
"I am so sorry Mr.," Alpha Graham apologized for his son.
"It's okay alpha Graham," Kevin said wiping his jacket with a tissue.
"Adam, say sorry to him. You got his clothes dirty and yours too." Alpha Graham said wiping the child's thick red and black sweater. For kids below thirteen the winters were really harsh. Without a wolf, the kids were basically human and didn't have the werewolf heating. Because of the same reason, serious injuries before thirteen left scars, like the one Kevin had on his hand.
"I am sorry Mr." The kid was really cute, if the person in front of the child was anyone else they would have awed at the cute expressions.
"I am sorry again, you should get your clothes cleaned. Please follow me, I have to get this little guy cleaned too." It was an opportunity for Kevin to talk to alpha Graham away from prying eyes so he grabbed it with both hands. He nodded and followed Graham to the washroom. When they walked inside the washroom, the first thing Kevin made sure was that it was empty before he started talking. Graham was cleaning his son's sweater with care and love, slightly scolding him here and there but the love clear in his tone.
"I didn't get your name," Graham said after several minutes.
"Kevin Harrington." Kevin didn't say alpha before his name like other alphas. Kevin didn't see himself as an alpha, his heart was that of a warrior and he will always stay a warrior. He was just the alpha's mate, Alex was the real alpha.
"Alpha Kevin Harrington of the Shadow Blood pack?" Graham asked looking at Kevin through the mirror. Kevin just mutely nodded at that.
"Congratulations on finding your mate." Graham smiled at Kevin. Kevin acknowledged the smile with a nod, he wasn't used to smiling in front of people other than Alex.
"Thank you." The time was ticking and Kevin didn't know how to bring the topic of an alliance in casual talk.
"Tell me, Kevin, what is the one thing that you love about being mated?" Graham asked Kevin, Graham was a friendly guy, easy to talk to but his easy-going nature didn't mean he was an easy person. Behind his easy-going personality was a sadistic killer who relished in the screams of his enemies as he tortured them.
"Finally having a family." Kevin didn't need to think before replying to Graham. The best thing about being mated for him was finally having a home, family, a feeling of belonging. Shadow Blood pack was his home, it was true he cared for the people and the pack but his real home was destroyed along with his family. But now he had a home, Alex was his home. He didn't need materialistic walls and roof to call it a home, his home was within Alex. His home was where Alex was.
"I am sorry." Graham looked at Kevin with guilty eyes. He didn't need Kevin to elaborate on what he meant. He lost his son five years back, he knew what it felt like to lose family.
"I hope the moon goddess bless you and your family and keep you all safe." Graham couldn't stop himself from saying that. He had suffered the pain once, the thought of that happening again was gut-wrenching for him. He knew all about the hunt and how some obnoxious alphas grouped together to hunt down an alpha-omega. As an alpha, he didn't agree with them, spilling blood for no apparent reason, just because they feel threatened by an alpha with omega wolf.
"Thank you, alpha Graham but I need your help to save my family," Kevin said without beating around the bushes.
"Alpha Kevin, you are the alpha of the strongest pack in the world. You have a massive army of wolves who are vicious fighter if I have heard correct. I am sure you don't need manpower from me, so what is it that you need from me?" Graham's tone didn't change a bit but the look in his eyes certainly did. Little Adam was watching the two adults quietly, sensing the tense atmosphere between them.
"A traitor is more dangerous than an enemy." Kevin looked straight in Graham's eyes conveying what he wanted from him.
"And what would I get in return?" Graham asked he didn't really want anything in return, helping Kevin to save his family was the right thing to do and he believed in doing the right thing. Year's ago alpha Nathaniel did the right thing and saved hid son. Today he was getting a chance to do the right thing and save an already broken person from further breaking. But he was curious to know what Kevin had to offer. An alliance was supposed to be a win-win for both the sides and he wanted to know what was the thing they were offering him.
"Your neighbouring pack land, south side." Graham's eyes momentarily widened, he understood what that mean. It just showed him how strong the Shadow Blood's game plan was. He won't be surprised if they had several others supporting them secretly.
"Send your messenger with the papers," Graham said finally ending the conversation when Adam started to get fussy. Graham left with Adam leaving Kevin alone in the washroom. He thanked the moon goddess for the opportunity she created today, in the end, the reason Graham agreed was the familiar loss but Kevin was thankful they didn't go in deep talking about the lost family. But only half of the work was done, as easy as it looked and how easily Graham agreed, it wasn't finished. Graham didn't believe in mere words, Kevin knew he was going to do his own research. He would only sign the alliance if he found them to be worthy.
Kevin left the washroom after some time to not raise suspicion, when he returning to the main area he saw two figures from the corner of his eyes. They were making out quite heavenly but the reason they caught Kevin's attention was that the girl seemed familiar to him. He couldn't see the girl's face but something was telling him he knew her. He gave up and continued on his way when he couldn't recognise the girl without seeing her face. As he was walking inside the party he spotted Alex and River coming downstairs. He quickly approached them but before he could ask them anything River was called on the stage and the official coronation begin.
After several hours of eating and dancing the six were leaving for their pack. Kevin and Alex waited for the other's to get inside the car. As Clair was getting inside the car, Benny gave her an odd look.
"What?" She asked getting inside the car.
"You smell funny. Like leather and motor oil." Benny said pinching his nose causing Clair to sniff around her body. That caught Alex and particularly Kevin's attention. If he looked at Clair carefully now she looked awfully familiar to the girl from before. And if it was her then who was she making out with? Her mate? But she didn't find her mate or did she?
