Alex and Kevin had a silent breakfast at Alex's parent's house, everybody decided to ignore the elephant in the room. Jake and Esme, were the only two oblivious to the silent tension between the adults, the unexpected sleepover served as a great opportunity for the pups to become friends. Jake who was initially very shy yesterday, but now was quietly talking to Esme and Esme was hanging on to every single word that Jake whispered to him. As if feeling Alex's gaze on him, Jake turned towards Alex and gave him a small smile, his cheeks turning red for no apparent reason and this small interaction didn't go unnoticed by Esme.
"Hu hu hu, what's the use of acting all cute and getting all red? He is already mated. Welcome to the club of one-sided love Jake." Esme said dramatically, rolling his eyes at Jake who flushed even more and dropped his little head. Alex chuckled at his brother's dramatics, he didn't know Esme still was in one-sided love with Kevin.
"You are definitely going to be some lovesick omega in the future, God bless your poor mate," Luke said from where he was sitting beside Esme.
"And what bout that? Alexi is an omega and he can kick Kevin's butt, no offence Kev, and when I become an omega like him I'll kick your butt. Jus wait and watch," Esme said smiling what what was supposed to be manically but it made him look silly.
"Mommy, Jake didn't finish his pancake. He didn't finish his dinner last night as well and-and he only ate half of his ice cream. You need to eat more Jake or you'll end up as tall as Alexi."
"Hey! That's mean. I am tall enough." Alex showed an offended expression making Esme giggle and Jake to crack a small smile. Alex looked down at Jake and his half-eaten breakfast, Alex expected it, most of the rescued pack members were skin and bones because of the lack of food and Jake wasn't an exception.
"I am done, Kev, please bring Jake back to our quarters after you are done eating," Alex said standing up from the table, the food on his plate was barely touched.
"But where are you going?" Kevin frowned standing up from the table but Alex touched his shoulder and lightly pushed him back on the chair.
"I just need some time alone." Alex's face was calm as ever, and his eyes were clear which made Kevin unable to question him any further and with a sigh, he sat back on the breakfast table."But the breakfast?"
"It's okay mom, I'll eat in the afternoon, I am not really hungry right now." Alex looked into his mother's concerned eyes, he knew his mother was concerned about him but he just needed some time alone. And without waiting anymore he walked outside the house. His face was still calm as he passed by pack members but his eyes were getting colder and colder as he walked away from the pack house and towards the pack borders. He walked past patrolling wolves and stood at the pack border, he colder hear the voices of the lively pack behind him, this pack was his home, and everyone knew it but what nobody knew was how suffocating this place could be for Alex. Alex was in constant battle with his two natures, his werewolf side and his demon side. The werewolf told within him longed for the pack life but the demon inside him demanded freedom. The werewolf in him adopted Jake as his cub but the demon in him wanted him to get away from this place. Alex's face was as calm as ever but if anyone looked closer they could see that his eyes were darker than usual and his hands were sweating. The patrolling wolves saw him cross the pack border and walk into the no man's territory but nobody stopped him. It wasn't the first time they saw Alex exit the pack as he wished and they were not worried about him but rather about any rouge who tried to cross Alex's way but they still kept an eye on him as he walked deeper and deeper in the rouge-infested land. And within minutes, he was far away from the pack members' eyes, as if he vanished in thin air. There was an urgency in his steps, his veins were throbbing, and something was trying to break free, his hands clenched and unclenched and be swallowed thickly. He thought of transforming into his wolf, and white fur started sprouting on his skin but it disappeared just as fast as it appeared, he tried again but this time the fur didn't appear, his heart was beating fast and his ears were ringing, amid the sound of blood rushing through his arteries, he heard Perry's voice in his head.
"Don't-"
But before Perry could warn him, he felt the change. He did transform but his wolf didn't appear. It was his demon form that showed itself. One more thing that Alex didn't tell anyone was that from the day when he used too much of his demon powers, his demon inheritance overpowered his werewolf self. It was always near the surface, he could feel it trying to break through his control. The reason he lied to Kevin that day was that he thought his demon side would stay dormant as it always has but after that day his demon side has been trying to dominate his wolf side. This caused Alex to reveal his secret to his family, he didn't want his family to be confused or scared of him if one day he somehow transformed into a demon in front of them. But he didn't expect the day to come so fast, he felt like something was calling the demon inside him, the demon inside him wanted to chase that feeling but something was missing. From the moment he woke up he felt something different, he could feel the restlessness and turmoil of his demon side for days now but today it was different. His heterochromatic eyes looked around with vigilance, he wanted to go further and chase this feeling, he wanted to get away from the pack but at the same time, he wanted to return. Frustration rose inside Alex and he roared looking at the sky, he didn't like it, he didn't like it a bit, the rationality of his human self was slipping away and his demon instincts were taking over. He felt empty, his treasure was missing, and he wanted to destroy and kill everything. He turned around and looked in the direction of the pack, his mind knew his treasure was in the pack, it was the pack that was keeping his treasure away from him and delaying his journey. Rage rose inside his heart, he'll kill those who were keeping his treasure, he will kill every single one of them. He took a step towards the pack and his body became stiff. His mind which was clouded with rage was clearing up a bit and his reasons were returning but it wasn't simple. His demon self wanted to harm his pack but the wolf within him couldn't let that happen. His mind was engaged in battle, veins were popping on his forehead. His jaw was painfully clenched and his eyes were switching from red to blue.
Alex didn't return to the pack until the sun went down, and when he returned his appearance raise a lot of eyebrows and gossip in hushed voices. His clothes were torn and he was badly scrapped, there were multiple blood stains on his body. His dishevelled appearance made everyone concerned but his cold and empty eyes froze any word of concern from the pack members. He walked straight to the alpha suit without any word and the moment he opened the door he was blasted with the scent of lush forest and petrichor. He followed the scent to his room, the scent was increasing with each step and it was so thick and concentrated outside the room. He swallowed thickly, his breathing getting faster with seconds, amber colour slowly slipping inside one of the original blue eyes, the demon that he barely controlled before was again ready to break free. He pushed open the door and his mate was standing there with a towel wrapped around his waist. The wheatish-tanned body was on full display of Alex's greedy eyes, the tight and sculptured muscles had Alex's hands clenching and unclenching again. He wanted to say a lot of things, but his tongue was in a twist and his mind was reduced to a puddle. And only one word came out of his mouth,
Treasure~
