Deacon felt a sense of serenity being at the Manor and chatting with Adam even if his mind kept wandering to Wendy. Adam reminded him of Lionel. There was an easy-going jovial nature to him that pulled you in and set you at ease. It wasn't about impressing the big names in the room or seeking out what to claim and who to step on to claim it.

In all his life never had he visited a home where he was not the knight in his father's game. He was groomed to fight so that his father could charter the course to financial rise and industrial dominance. It was always the business never the son who wanted to be in the little league baseball game, never the teenager who wanted to be wild and carefree.

He was, however, now a man and he promises to make any child of his have a home and not a house and have a father, not a dictator. A home like where he now sat with Adam in a gayly styled den that offered warmth and comfort.

Adam was sharing with him about his winery. As  he listened with appreciation as to how the other man was filled with pride and love for this old winery he had bought and invested his all in and was now profiting him immensely he felt a sense of  nostalgia.

He had at one point in time wanted a life where he rose on his own grime and grit and made his own name nonetheless he did well being the his father's successor.

He gave him a brief overview of once being lost in living a life that was just having him moving through the motions until he saw on the internet the old winery being placed for sale.

He told him by just sitting there and looking at the photos of the winery he knew there and then where his purpose lay.

"I never regretted leaving Denver and coming out here. I have both loves of my life in one place and the feeling is the best feeling I have ever felt," he ended with a contented smile. "And with Cynthia and Precilla thrown into the mix, it's most savory."

Deacon felt a bit of envy. He was a part of this too but never will he be able to have the benefits that Adam has. It was only a matter of time before he had to walk away from Wendy and her family.

"It's truly great to know that Cynthia is getting her dream come true too. Now that Wendy has found someone I know she'll be less worried," Adam said after draining his glass and putting on the thick oak center table where they sat across from each other.

"Why is Cynthia worried?" he queried looking down into his glass and hoping such a question did not reveal how little he knew about Wendy's personal life.

Adam leaned forward in the chair and looked out the window that showed a picturesque display of the backyard where in a matter of days his wedding ceremony would be held.

"Cynthia fears dying and leaving Wendy alone. She feels obligated to ensure her daughter finds happiness," he said looking back at him.

Deacon felt a bit of pain at the thought he never had his mother around g enough to receive such a benefit.

"Back when her treatment seemed to not be working Cynthia found the majority of the eligible guys in Duncan Cove to set up with Wen, man I think Wen was going to send her to meet her maker before cancer would," he gave a light chuckle.

"She loves her daughter dearly doesn't she?" Deacon said quietly as he continued to look out the window where he now saw Wendy and Georgia walking past hugged together and chatting.

He already knew of the love here. He could sure see it as well as feel it. It permeated the atmosphere, radiated from the vibrant and gay characters, and the appealing house with its airy and gay interior filled with past and present memorabilia that evoke a sense of nostalgia in him.

He knew also that if he could he would give up all he had for a life here like Adam would be having  with Georgia. He let his eyes follow Wendy until she was out of sight.

Some things more often than not were wishful thinking. He had wanted a mother who got to live too see how much of a man he had become and a father who loved him, but he never got one. Only people who wanted to be a part of a world that they thought offered glamour until they realize it's just a bitter bastard that controls it with nothing but selfish desires.

"Yes Cynthia loves Wen very much and will do whatever she feels it takes to make her happy and protect her too, even if at times it causes them to butt heads," he responded, looking intently at Deacon he asked, "Do you love Wendy that much?"

The question caught Deacon off guard and his grey eyes shot to the other man who sat staring at him his brown eyes just as serious as his face.

He knew it now. Adam was here to feel him out and find his true intention towards Wendy and no doubt relate it to Cynthia. No doubt she knew that if she should instigate finding out on her own accord Wendy would be upset.

"You can rest assured that I have Wendy's best interests at heart as well as my own selfish desires. I too care for the people in my life that matter to me and will go the extra mile to do whatever it takes to see that nothing befalls them," he answered turning back to the window where he took in the splash of colors that interlaced themselves in the rich greenery of a garden that bespoke love and care.

"What are those selfish desires?"

"The very one that a man has for the woman he wants heart, body, and soul," he admitted softly.

For four years he battled with it. He knew deep down that Wendy Preston was no ordinary woman. He had been working with her as his longest PA and she had stood her ground when others would have quit. There were days when he hated to even work with himself but she had proven to him that she was just as determined to face and defeat any challenge that he set up.

She was a rather unique and special woman who never missed the mark. He remembered a few months ago when she had met in a hit-and-run accident and had suffered a mild concussion and was told by her doctor to take a week off from work. They had at that time an upcoming meeting with a potentially valuable Japanese fishery company she had stayed home and worked her ass off with Elen to ensure that everything was in place.

That was just one of the moments that let him know she would go the extra mile to ensure that everyone and everything around her was taken care of.

Wendy Preston was a good woman to have and he needed her. He needed her if he was to ever survive the fight that awaits him. He just had to ensure that he made her see that he would in return take care of her the way she had of him and that he would stand by her as long as she needed him. He desired her all the more just knowing that she would rather put herself in the wrong to make the people she care about happy.

"I was never one to place my faith in a higher being even though I acknowledge that there has to be some sort of controller for the way our lives are designed at times," Adam said "I however believe that you and Wendy could be destined."

"This means I pass the test." He asked turning back to Adam with a smirk.

"Don't get too arrogant Mr. Ffrench," Adam returned with a smirk of his own, "there are more where I came from, and in a matter of hours and even leading up to when Georgia and I ride off into the sunset as Mr. and Mrs. Keane, you'll be left to prove to them that you intend to make Wendy your bride. It doesn't stop when the wedding is over."

There was a warning there and before he could respond Adam rise from where he sat and said. "There goes Wilfred with the bags, I'll leave you to go up and we'll meet up later when my parents and sister arrive."

This was not going to be a walk in the park as Wendy had suggested and the thought of it made him smile. He loved challenges.
