Back in Dresdale."If you are not up for it I'll understand," the tall figure standing by the mirror mounted on the wall and adjusting his pink silk tie said looking at the young woman who paced behind him.
"I'm fine just jittery that's all," she smiled stilling her pacing and coming to stand by him.
They looked at each other in the mirror both showing a striking resemblance to the other. With a brotherly hug, he pulled her to his side and told her that everything was going to work out perfectly.
"Should I tell Braxton to bring the car around or do you need a few minutes more?" Lionel question as he waited.
"Please do, I need to get out of this house," she said as she reached for her handbag and proceed from the study that once belonged to their father. "And besides it's not every day a girl gets to open her own Health Clinic."
He smiled and took her soft slender hands in his much bigger ones that for most of her life had spent playing the piano and following on a path that leads to many musical attributes and world recognition but it was never her dream or desire.
Her dream had been to be a doctor but most of her dreams vanished when life chartered the course of her existence and lead her down a path that it saw fit. She pulled her thoughts away from the past and the one memory that often rendered her miserable and angry.
The past was gone and thanks to her brother and her dearest of friend Deacon Ffrench she was close to once again living her dream if even it was only a remnant of what she had dreamed of accomplishing.
They however, offered her a present that as much as she craved it she was feeling guilty that Deacon was putting his life in a chokehold to see that she made it to Africa where she wanted desperately to go and get the fresh start she wanted.
The thought of Deacon sends her into a deeper state of solemnness, even though they had converse this morning and he had assured her that he was very pleased with his choice in choosing to wed his Personal Assistant much to her surprise and pending agitation she was selfishly hoping that it paved her way to getting away from the pain and the memories.
She smiled for a bit as she remembered talking to Deacon. His voice had sounded completely different, there had been an air of calmness and serenity to him that she had never heard before and for a minute she was tempted to broach the big taboo; him being in love, but there was no way she was going to jinx her chance of hightailing it to Africa.
Deacon once said love jinxed everything.
There was only pain and heartache when you give into love he had stated often, her dear beloved Deacon did not do love. He was too tainted by his father's manipulation of his life and the circumstances that came along with the unfortunate love affairs that only end up being affairs.
He had wiped away every feeling that had to do with caring for anything beyond his legacy, ensuring he kept his company up and running so that he maintained the wellbeing of the workers that depended on him to keep the Corporation afloat was his priority.
Even if he appeared an arrogant womanizer and a ruthless businessman she knew Deacon to be a selfless, hardworking and dependable man and a forever friend. He never once wavered in being there for her and Lionel.
They owed him a lot, but if they should ever mention it he would tell them he could never repay them for their friendship and he was the one that owed them. They were the three broken Musketeers all waiting for the day they would mend.
"Let's go," Lionel said taking her gently by the elbow and leading her to the awaiting car.
She felt her feet falter and her lips parted to tell him she could not go along with him but she swallowed it and smiled at her brother and nod her head.
The clinic might not be Africa but it was the only thing she had to keep her afloat so she did not drown in depression. If only she could lock her feelings away and be emotionless maybe she could marry Deacon and run the clinic.
Wishful thinking she knew she could never content herself with that role life had dealt her to play. She was not that selfish and she cared for Deacon too much and in the end, they would only be hurting instead of healing.
She was settling down in the back seat of the car when her phone beeped. She retrieved it from her bag and stared down at the notification and hastily dropped it back in her bag. She needed to be in Africa the father she was away from here the better.
"Is everything alright?" she heard Lionel ask and she hurriedly plastered a smile on her pink coated lips and lied.
" Yes."
He looked over at her then join their hands and gave hers a gentle squeeze of reassurance then said softly.
"You were never good at lying to me."
"Maybe it's more of a conviction than lying," she returned.
"I am sorry I could not have protected you...,"
"Please Lionel," she said cutting him off. "Protection would not have thought me what I have learned."
"No one wants to learn heartache and betrayal, Kylie," he told her his voice soft but his face could not mask his anger and pain.
With a smile that she hoped would soften his budding anger, she said, "With Deacon getting married Africa is no longer a dream but a reality and my chance to put into practice my newfound resilience."
"Kylie," he said sternly, "We have talked about this. What Deacon did was not to have you hightailing to Africa. The clinic is your start to getting your life in order."
"My life is what we are talking about here right? My Life! Well if it is I don't want to be a part of the clinic. Yes, I am happy you rescued it from ruin and help me put in place my desire to get homosexuals and lesbians medical care without descrimination, but it was never my desire to spend my days lost in the next best thing."
The tension was building and Lionel did his best to calm his raging temper.
"It's because of this same do what I want and dare attitude why I am offering you the next best thing. You placed yourself in this Ky," he informed through clenched teeth.
Kylie glared at her brother and felt tears burn her eyes but she blinked them away and turn to stare at the moving scenery outside. For a brief moment, silence filled the car until Lionel phone started ringing. She was grateful as she was not sure she could take him saying he was sorry for laying down the truth.
She was where she was today because she taught herself above ever being able to fall from her pedestal, but yes she did plummet to a nasty fall from grace that money and power were able to sweep up in its dustbin and discard but the truth will forever be with her as it was not so easily swept away for her.
She needed a new start and it wasn't what her brother had in mind and it was about time she told Lionel the truth. However, when his call ended she kept the truth hidden.

What could have happened to have Kylie so perturbed? What is she actually running from? What is the big secret that has both brother and sister so worked up?
