Chapter 13: Affections

 Wei Wuxian woke up around 8 am, but he only slept a couple of hours. In less than two weeks he would be seeing Lan Zhan. He had tried to keep him out of his head for the last couple of years but it had been impossible. When he finally succeeded in something he wanted to tell Lan Zhan. When he made a new friend he wanted to tell Lan Zhan. When he thought his hair looked exceptionally good he wanted to tell Lan Zhan. He buried his head in his hands as he thought he was acting like a lovesick maiden. 'Until the conference, I will not think about nor talk about Lan Zhan' he declared to the wall.

Wuxian got dressed for the day in his normal clothing. He was wearing two robes, the bottom being a silky red, with the top being black lace with golden dragons embedded on it. He tied half his hair back and put on a small headpiece instead of the usual crown, seeing as he didn't want to draw too much attention to himself. He strapped Suibian and Chenqing to his waist, and grabbed his pouch. Taking one last look at himself, he made his way downstairs.

Boquin was getting antsy. He could tell that something was off with A-Xian, but he didn't want to pressure him into talking. He had taken a liking to the boy right away, and over the last couple of years they had bonded. Boquin had been trying to make his intentions clear for some time now, but everytime he got close, he messed up. But there was another major problem, Wei Wuxian was.. dense. He wouldn't understand feelings even if someone told him straight to his face. This meant that Boquin was going to have to work extra hard to win Wuxian's attention.

He got dressed slightly nicer seeing as he would have to push himself harder. He put on three layers of robes. The first being white silk, the second red silk, and the final was black leather with dragon designs. He then braided half his hair up and put in a gold hair piece. Today, he was finally going to get Wuxian's attention.

Daiyu was having an interesting morning. The first part was great. She enjoyed waking up to the smell of Lotus flowers in a nice inn. She even helped the 'twin troublemakers' get ready for the day making them look like normal kids instead of like they just came out of a mud fight. But the weird part was when she got downstairs.

She was now sitting across from her sworn brother as he was getting showered by affections from two directions.

"You look so handsome this morning gege," Jia said as she wormed her way into Wuxian's space.

"He always looks nice," Boquin retorted, refilling Wuxian's water cup. Daiyu just watched as they went back and forth, slowly getting closer and closer to Wuxian. I could tell he was getting uncomfortable and so could Wuxian's other guard, Li Jie.

"Master Wei, would you take me to the kitchen? I would like to make breakfast today," Li Jie asked, saving Wuxian from the two attention seekers.

"Of course, this way," he said, extracting the extra limbs from his body. They made their way to the kitchen, hearing faint arguing coming from the other two. Wuxian thanked him.

"It was no problem, what would you like for breakfast?"

"Did you forget about me?" Grangran entered as she looked at the young men.

"Of course not, would you care to assist me?" asked Ji Lie. The woman nodded and the two prepared breakfast. The three of them chatted in the kitchen as breakfast was being made.

"So, young master Wei, what is with the two that were crawling all over you?" Grangran asked with a quirked eyebrow.

"Who knows, I don't understand them."

"Well I think they both want your affection, you are quite a handsome young man," she said while grinning at the boy who started blushing. He even tried denying it.

"Then I dare you to spend a whole day with them, and then you tell me if I was right or wrong."

"Challenge accepted, I'll prove that I'm right." Wei Wuxian was slightly nervous at the idea. He hadn't really thought about dating or romance while he had been living there. Jia is pretty, and I care about her, but more like a good friend. But the thought of Boquin holding attraction towards him made him feel funny on the inside. 'Could I be a cutsleeve?' Or maybe I just like both he decided. Well, there's only one way to find out.

The three exited the kitchen with breakfast. Wuxian sat between Boquin and Daiyu making Jia pout. Li Jie sat next to Jia to try and somewhat distract her from Wuxian. They ate breakfast pretty peacefully and they decided that they were going to explore for the day. Daiyu would hang out with Jun and A-Yuan and take them lotus picking as the boys requested. While Jia and Li Jie would go and look at fabric, jewels and cosmetics. Boquin and Wuxian would go off on their own today, which made both of them happy that they would get to spend some time with each other.
