"Lena!" I yelled from the hallway, "hurry up!"

"Hold on, I'm coming" she giggled, "I'll meet you downstairs."

"You said that 10 minutes ago, I'm waiting right here until you're done."

Lena is late to everything but this time she's trying to be extra late on purpose.

Seconds later the bathroom door swung open.

"We're on time stop rushing" she said.

"Lena we have 20 minutes to be there and it's 35 minutes away."

I lightly grabbed her hand and guided her down the stairs.

"It slipped my mind, honest" she laughed as she followed me down the steps.

Her parents wanted to meet up to discuss some things. But you can tell by her carelessness that she'd rather be elsewhere.

From what I've heard, they've been in New York since the fall out at brunch that led to Lena sleeping at my crib. That was a month and a half ago.

They took over Granny's crib and even moved the secret love child in but Granny won't let nobody touch Lena's room or her stuff. Rashad can't come back yet because he doesn't get approval from his Parole officer until next month. I wouldn't complain if I were him, he has the entire crib to hisself.

Granny tells me that Lena's Moms didn't feel comfortable leaving on bad terms but nobody knew where Lena was staying so nobody could clear the air and because she wanted it to be a secret, I didn't say anything either.

The block got to talking about where she may be and all fingers pointed to my direction but I stayed solid and didn't say anything either.

We got in my whip and I drove off.

"Did you lock the house up?" I asked her.

"Maybe we should go back, just to see if I did" she smirked.

"Lena" I sighed, "we are going to this dinner whether you like it or not because if I'm tired of being the middle man/messenger I know your grandmother is as well so if you can't do this for the sake of peace between you and your parents, do this for Granny because I can tell she's tired of this drama."

"Okay" she mumbled.

"So did you lock the door?" I asked.

"Yes I locked the door."

"Well...thank you."

She turned the radio up and sat back in the seat.

"Remind me to say a prayer before we enter this restaurant because this ain't it" I said under my breath.

"Huh? What was that?" She asked.

"What? Nothing" I lied.

"Mmm Hmm."

"Can we leave?" Lena irritably asked.

"We just got here, just give them a chance...they probably got lost" I tried calling her down.

We've had time to be seated and to go through two baskets of bread and her parents still have not arrived.

I've been trying to calm her down but I'm running out of ideas.

Deep down inside, I'm hoping they do the right thing and get here because they called the meeting in the first place and it'd be cowardly to not show up.

"Can we leave?" She whined.

"10 more minutes."

She tapped her finger nails on the table while staring at the clock.
