Rashad

"Everything looks so nice." my mom smiled as she looked around the church's banquet hall.

We reserved the repass for granny at the church. We knew that many people would be attending, and the banquet hall has the necessary space.

It was decorated with all kinds of different flowers and banners and pictures of granny with a majority of the kids she helped throughout the years.

My mom and I came to make sure everything was in order before going to the burial site.

"Hey y'all I came here as soon as I could" my dad said, "I was finishing some paperwork at the funeral home."

I didn't say anything to him because my mom told me to try and be nice. It isn't about me today, it's about celebrating granny's life so I'll try.

"It's no problem Lamar" my mom simply said before focusing her attention back on the decor.

"Where's babygirl?" he asked.

"Lena said she wasnt going but I sent Andrés to the house to change her mind" mom replied.

"I hope she changes her mind because I know she'll regret her decision" he said.

"Have you regretted any of yours yet?" I retorted.

That response wasn't premeditated, it just came out.

"Rashad" my mom scoffed.

"Sorry ma" I said.

"You know Rashad I've made some mistakes in my past" my dad spoke, "but I'm trying to-..."

He was interrupted when the door opened.

In walked Andrés, without Lena.

"Did she change her mind?" my mom asked.

"No ma'm, she said she's still not going" he answered, "but Luís and them are going to wait over there until the last minute just in case she changes her mind. I have to head back to the house and wait for police escort so everything can run smoothly and on time."

"Alright baby, thank you so much" my mom told him.

"It's all good" he smiled, "anything for granny, right?"

He rushed out of the door and no lie, I wanted to do the same.

I don't want to be around my pops anymore. He's not the man that I once knew.

"Let me go talk to her" my dad said.

"No, I'll do it" I argued.

"Rashad!" my mom yelled.

"Ok" I said putting my hands up in surrender, "Ok."

My dad looked at me like he had something else to say but he walked out of the door instead.

Lamar

I used my key to unlock the door before I headed downstairs to the living room.

"Wassup y'all" I said, greeting the kids.

"Mr. L?" Luís said with the look of confusion all over his face.

"I know. I don't have time to explain but I need you all to do me a favor" I told them.

"What is it?" they asked.

"Go outside and help Andrés with getting everyone lined up properly so we can start the procession on time."

"What about Lena?" he asked.

"Just do this one thing for me. I will handle the rest" I reassured him.
