CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN// ASSHOLE'S FRIENDS
"BETTER THAN HIM."

Jade, Glenn and Hershel each walked closer to Rick, standing on the sides of him as they looked down to Tony's lifeless corpse. Rick holstered his weapon, seeming like what he had done was a normal everyday occurrence.

"You okay, Jade?" Rick questioned, glancing over at the brunette.

"Better than him." She mumbled as she ran her palms over her jeans.

"Hershel? Glenn?" The Grimes added.

"Mhmm."

"I'm good." Hershel responded, as he nodded. "Let's head back."

They each nodded, as they moved to the door, bright headlights shined through the frosted glass. Sliding to the floor, hiding beside the wood of the door, backs tightly pressed to keep them from being seen. Glenn and Jade sat by one another, holding each other close while Rick and Hershel sat on opposite sides of them.

"Dave? Tony?" A loud voice from outside exclaimed, followed by car doors slamming shut. "They said over here?"

"Yeah."

"I'm telling you, man, I heard shots."

"I saw roamers two streets over. Might be more around here."

"It's hot. We gotta get out of here."

"Dave! Tony!"

"What to do we do?" Glenn whispered over to look at Rick.

"Shut up, you idiot! You wanna attract 'em?"

"Give me a minute to think." Rick mumbled, rubbing a hand over his face before crouch-walking closer to the others.

"Just stick close. We're gonna find 'em."

"Why won't they leave?" Hershel asked.

"Would you?" Jade answered in a soft voice, glancing up to watch the men's shadows.

"We.. we can't sit in here any longer. Let's head out back and make a run to the car." Rick explained, beginning to stand up, only to be forced back down by multiple gunshots.

"What happened?"

"Roamers, I nailed 'em."

"They disappeared, but their car's still here."

"I cleared those buildings. You guys get this one?"

"No."

"Me neither."

"We're looking for Dave and Tony and no one checks the damn bar?"

Footsteps quickly approached the bar, the moving shadows in the windows getting close to the door. Looking to Tony's body that was sprawled out in front of the door, Jade bounded forward, pushing against the door as one of the men tried to open it.

"What?"

"Someone pushed it shut. There's someone in there."

"Yo, someone in there? Yo, if someone's in there, we don't want no trouble. We're just looking for our friends." The man behind the door explained as Jade took in a sharp breath, her hands shaking as she leaned her head against the door.

Glenn reached over, taking her hand in his as the men outside conversed quietly. "We don't want any trouble. We're just looking for our friends. If something happened, tell us. This place is crawling with corpses. If you could help us not get killed, I'd appreciate it."
