CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR// NOT SO GREAT ESCAPE

Liz stood close to Glenn, Rick's spare gun held tightly in her hands. Her anger grew as Rick stared out the window, watching as the fighters of Woodbury searched for the intruders. Rick nodded over to Daryl, who moved forward and dug into his bag.
"Okay, on three. Stay tight." Rick told, adjusting the hold on his weapon. "One, two, three."
The door swung open and Daryl quickly threw out three smoke. Rick waited a few seconds, allowing the fog to surround the area before they ran out. Elizabeth stayed in the inner-circle of the group as they ran, making sure she remained directly beside Glenn.
Liz's hope and need for survival came flooding back into her body, giving her a heightened sense of adrenaline. Her heard beat fast in her chest and her heart felt clouded, but her hands stayed still as she held her gun and her mind stayed clear with her purpose.
Get rid of Woodsbury.
That was her goal. That horrid man gave all these people a sense of safety, when in reality all he wanted was power. That so-called Governor kept the people around him docile and domesticated in their world of terror.
He kept her imprisoned, he hurt her, he touched her. He convinced her that Theodora and Michonne were dead. He was the person behind Glenn's intensive injuries. He was man guilty of doing revolting things.
He was a man who deserved to die. Those who know of what he has done deserved to be punished.
And that was the thought that kept her mind occupied as she kept the gun raised. Throughout those months she spent away from the others, she had become a better shot with a weapon. She was still much better with a hand-held weapon. But she could hit most targets with ease.
Liz mostly let the others, who were equipped with machine guns and rifles to take out the people of Woodsbury; while she merely dealt with those that got too close or that the others didn't see. She glanced over at Glenn every few seconds, feeling a sting of pain in her heart every time she heard him wince.
She aimed for two men who were hiding behind a bench as Rick beckoned everyone to hide in an alleyway. Taking in a deep breath, she fired, hitting one of the men directly in the throat due Daryl tugging on her arm.
Glenn clutched his abdomen as he leaned against the wall, staring over at Liz's calm face. He wondered how she could act so normal after being away for so long, for going through so much. His mind wandered as he hoped she'd talk to him about it once they arrived at the prison.
He wanted to know what was going through her mind. He needed her to know that he was there for her to talk things through so she could feel better. While they were still at the Atlanta camp, in one of their many deep conversations, Glenn had asked Dale why Elizabeth was so closed off.
Dale explained to him that he and Nick were the ones she talked to let loose of her feelings, that why she didn't talk to many other people about her feelings. But, that was before Dale passed and Liz was away for so long. He wondered if she was able to turn to someone to ease her pain during those months.
Glenn also hoped he would become someone she could tell her feelings too.
"How many?" Rick asked loudly, assuring that everyone would hear him over the gunfire.
