CHAPTER FIVE // STILL ALIVE
"I'D SAY MORE A DYING CAT."ִֶָ 𓂃⊹ ִֶָ
Immediately after Jade climbed out the car, she was wrapped in a tight hug by Nick, who had been insanely worried for her safety after T-Dog's radio call. "Oh, thank God. You're alright." Nick whispered as he rested his chin on his older sister's head.
"Yup, no bites, no scratches. I'm perfectly alright, idiot." She explained as the two pulled slightly away from one another.
"Hell of a bruise and black eye." He noted, staring down at her in worry. "What happened?"
"Merle Dixon. Who else?" She answered with a laugh as Nick pulled her in for another hug. The two siblings had always been close due to their mere two year age gap. They didn't have many shared interests, but the love they shared for one another always prevailed through arguments, sarcastic comments, and distance. The two had always been there for one another, through Jade's surgeries when they were younger, her bullying, the death of their adopted mother, and the apocalypse.
"Auntie Jade!" Theodora then came running up to Jade, the older Horvath picking up the girl in a hug.
"Hey, Teddy Bear. You keep the boys safe for me while I was gone?" Jade asked with a smile, watching as the 11 year old nodded at her aunt.
She could see her father standing on the top of the RV as he stared down at the pair that had finally returned. "Holy crap. Turn that damn thing off." Dale exclaimed, causing Jade to let the girl onto the ground before popping the hood of the vehicle.
"I didn't know how!' Glenn shouted back with a lighthearted shrug as Jade pulled the plug out of the engine, cutting the sound off.
"Jade, my sister, Andrea, is she okay? Is she alright?" Amy asked, tightly grasping the brunette's upper arm.
"Yeah, she's okay. They all are. They're coming back in a different car." Jade explained, trying to calm the girl down.
"Why isn't she with you?"
"Glenn and I had to draw the geeks away so we could stay alive. But, they are all fine." She proclaimed to the group, watching as Morales' wife's face became more calm.
"Well, Merle not so much." Glenn muttered.
"Are you two crazy, driving this wailing bastard up here?" Shane asked angrily, his hands placed on his hips. "Are you trying to draw every walker for miles?"
"I think we're okay." Dale spoke, pulling his daughter in for a hug, silently relishing in the fact that she was alright, not noticing the harsh bruising on her face.
"You call being stupid okay?"
"Would you stop? The sound was all over the place, no walker would be able to figure out where it was coming from." Jade argued with a small smirk.
"Although it wouldn't hurt the two of you to think things through beforehand." Dale commented.
"Sorry, Dad."
"I'm sorry. Got a cool car." Glenn spoke, motioning to the bright red vehicle he was standing beside.
The loud rumble of the truck's engine sounded from behind the group, alerting them that the rest of the group was back. Glenn and Jade smiled at one another, proud of themselves and each other for being able to get everyone out of the situation.
Morales was the first out of the truck, his family running to him instantly. Andrea then climbed out of the back of the truck, running towards Amy with a happy sigh, each of the sisters having tears in their eyes.
