Chapter 12: The Plan

Marcos' POV:

Lorna just called and told me Reeva's plan and location for the big heist they've been planning, so I rush to find John. I find John with Sonya training Naya, Wes, Lauren, and Skyler in one of the stairways, "John!" I yell. John looks at me, "Lorna just called me and explained Reeva's heist plan!" I inform him. John looks at Sonya and she nods, "Practice on your own for a bit while we go talk to Marcos." Sonya says. The four kids nod and begin practicing on their own while Sonya, John, and I go to a private room. I roll out a map, "So.. Lorna says they're going for Baton Rogue Federal Building because the Purifiers are trying to get government funding and to become a actual task force," I circle the building on the map, "Their plan is to use Clarice as an escape, but the issue is while the group is raiding and attacking people; they are leaving Max in the car with her. From what Lorna has told me, Max has already tried to advance on Clarice multiple times. Max also has a tranquilizer gun at his disposal if Clarice ran for it, so we need to find a way to get her away from Max." John looks enraged by the fact that Max has tried to make advances but I continue, "We have an hour at the most to get Max away from Clarice and get her out of the car and back here." We then start formulating a plan.

Lorna's POV:

After getting off the phone with Marcos, I decide to go to the main area with Clarice since she hasn't eaten much lately. I go to her room and see her watching the TV, "Come on." I say. Clarice looks at me confused, "Where are we going?" she asks while turning off the TV. I turn off the light in her room, "The main area so you can get some food." Clarice visibly tenses. I put my arm around her, "Come on.. nobody will hurt you." I reassure her. Clarice hesitantly follows me to the main area where Max, Heather, and Tico were on the couch. I bring Clarice straight to the snack bar as Andy calls it and let her pick something to eat. I'm giving suggestions when I hear Max mumble, "She's got an a** alright." I know he's not talking about me and I'm about to respond when Clarice grabs my arm and shakes her head. I begrudgingly sigh and Clarice grabs an apple, "Lets go." She mutters. We go into my room when I notice another upside down triangle similar to the one under her left eye now under her right eye as well, "You got a new marking." Clarice looks in a mirror that was above my dresser and widens her eyes at the sight of the new marking, "I think your mutant genes are evolving." I note. Clarice looks at me confused, "Evolving?" she asks. I smile, "Mutant genes can evolve causing the mutant to gain new abilities or alter their appearance." I explain. Clarice ponders it for a minute, "So the crystal.. was my mutation evolving?" she asks. I nod, "We can also go to the training room and see if we can figure out how to use the crystals." Clarice agrees but first she wanted to finish her apple. 

Clarice's POV:

Lorna and I arrive in the training room to find Andy and Rebecca practicing their powers. Andy greets us while Rebecca is glaring at me, "We're going to continue practicing." Andy says noticing Rebecca glaring at me relentlessly. Lorna and I go to the other side of the training room, "Ok lets just start with making a crystal." Lorna says. I try to open a portal to see if it would make one and to my surprise; the crystal was formed instead of a portal. I hold the crystal in my hand, "Now what?" I ask. Lorna hits some buttons on a panel and some targets were created, "Throw it at a target." I raise my eyebrow. Lorna nods at me so I shrug, "Ok." I say. I throw the crystal at the target and when it makes contact with the target it disappears in a pink flash. The target reappears right below the ceiling and starts plummeting towards the floor, "Crap." I try to make another crystal but a portal opens instead, so I open the portal wider and the other end opened above the pedestal that the target was originally on. The target goes through my portal and lands on the pedestal just like it was, "So I can open portals.. but also make crystals?" I ask Lorna. Lorna nods, "It appears so." I hear Reeva say from behind me. I freeze and slowly turn around and face her, "We're doing tests." Reeva orders. I back up in panic as Lorna narrows her eyes, "No, I've told you no!" she yells. Reeva looks at Lorna, "You are not in charge." Reeva says. Reeva grabs my arm roughly, "Do NOT touch her!!" Lorna yells. Heather comes and teleports Lorna out of the room. Reeva starts walking out while dragging me with her. I start trying to pull away, "Remember who will get hurt if you disobey." Reeva says. I stop and reluctantly follow her to a room that was completely white and empty with doctors in it. I hesitantly enter the room and doctors rush over, "Behave." Reeva hisses. Doctors attach electrodes to my head and hands, put a pulse tracker on my finger, and a heart rate monitor on me. The doctors turn everything on and leave the room, "Now that your are being monitored I want you to make another crystal." I hear Sage say over the intercom. Pedestals rise from the ground and they have a array of objects, "Throw it as these." Sage instructs. I look at the door and see Max creepily staring at me with a gun of some sorts, "Max is waiting outside with a tranquilizer if you try to run or teleport." Sage informs me. I look back at the objects and decide to just do as I'm told. I put my hands together shakily and try to make a crystal but a portal is made instead, "Stop now." Reeva says. I look at the speaker, "I don't know how to switch between making a portal and crystal!" I yell at the speaker angerly. I try to make a crystal again but a portal is made again, "Come on." I murmur. I try at least 4 more times until a crystal is finally made, and I hold it in my hand. I look at the apple on one of the pedestals and throw the crystal at the apple and disappears in a pink flash when the crystal makes contact. The apple reappears above me so I tried to make a portal to catch it but a crystal was made, "Crap." I moved just as the apple was about to hit me. I look at the crystal and decide to throw it in front of me.. to see what happened. I throw it and it hits the wall causing for the entire wall to disappear showing the streets and buildings on the other side of it. I'm startled by Max and Reeva charging in, "I-I-I didn't mea-" I start but am interrupted by the sudden pain in my arm. I look down and see a dart in my arm; I look up and Esme enter and come towards me. Esme removes the dart while my arms and legs start tingling; Esme gets me to sit down before everything went black. 

Esme's POV:

I catch Clarice when she goes limp, "Was it really necessary to shoot her with a horse tranquilizer?" I ask. Reeva starts walking away, "She tried to escape." I raise an eyebrow, "I don't think she was.. I think she was trying to experiment and accidently teleported the wall away." I say. Reeva stops and looks at me, "Are you questioning me?" I sigh, "No.. I just was stating my observations." I explain. Reeva leaves and doctors come in to unhook Clarice from the monitors, then take her back to her bedroom. I set off to find Lorna.

She's not going to be happy.
